Neither I nor the Church has a problem with women giving blessings. Mothers and wives have been doing that since The Beginning. What women can not do is invoke the Priesthood.

We can not invoke a power or authority that we don't have.

I disagree with you. They often ask for blessings. That is different than pronouncing (or announcing) that a blessing will occur. I feel most in ecclesiastical authoruty would be uncomfortable today to her a woman say or pronounce, "I bless that.." or "I bless you that...", while feeling very comfortable in the context of a prayer to say, "I I ask that thou would bless..."

Nobody I know pronounces a blessing on the food, male or female. They ask for a blessing. Prayers are not blessings. They are requests for blessings.

There is a difference in practice, if not in results. It is one of those "separate but not quite equal" things as commonly viewed in the Church.

I'm fine with disagreement. My experience is different than yours.

It is ALL contingent upon Christ, be it a blessing on the food, or to curing a young child's deadly illness. If He doesn't want it to happen it doesn't.

Are you sure about that?

This was actually changed in the new handbook. The 1998 version specifically said it was NOT a priesthood ordinance. I would quote it but I am at the ICU with my sick son. I believe it can be found online. PS What I wouldnt do for a woman of faith with healing gifts right now!

Psst! Keep reading! It's already presented and commented on :)

Kingsson:

In LDS theology there is no such thing as the Priesthood of all believers. That is strictly a modern Protestant thing.

Catholicism teaches three priesthoods:

The priesthood of all believers.

The ordained priesthood.

And the High Priesthood of Jesus Christ.

Specific to the topic of this thread, Catholic laity, both men and women, can and do perform healings and blessings, though Sacred Oil is not used by the laity. For example, we bless ourselves, and our children, when entering a church, with Holy Water. For Catholics (East and West) there are also two Sacraments of healings, administered by an ordained Priest: Reconciliation (confession) and Holy Unction (healing of the sick and last rites using Sacred Oil).

Peace.

The Bible says ALL BELIEVERS are Priests. Other then that there is no priesthood.

There are, Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers, PLEASE NOTE, No Priesthood.

Have you ever thought the LDS theology is wrong??, Either that or the Bible is wrong.

Where does the Bible say there are ordained priests?? The Bible's Ministry team is,

Apostle, Prophet, Eveangelist Pastor and Teacher. PLEASE NOTE.. No priests.

What is the differance between healng and Holy unction?? If a person is healed what does it matter how they are healed.

The Bible doesn't say only a Minister can heal.

catholics don't heal by the power of God, God will only confirm His word, And as the catholics don't teach God's word it can't be God who is doing the healing through them.

What is all this nonesense about blessing yourself with Holy water and sacred oil??.

Born again Christians are already blessed, We don;t need to bless ourselves, GOD BLESSES US.

Hello Kingsson, I was giving a reply to the idea that the priesthood of all believers is something that arose out of Protestantism, which is not accurate.

The priesthood of all believers is rooted in the belief that by virtue of our baptisms we are made prophets, priests and kings. These gifts are not separate unto ourselves, we share in the one Holy High Priesthood of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:5–9). When we bless ourselves it is God who blesses us. Holy Orders: Acts 14:23, Romans 15:16, Titus 1:5.

Of course Catholics heal by the power of Jesus Christ. The Sacraments were instituted by Jesus, and are an outward sign of inward grace.

Peace.

Where does the Bible say "Baptism" make us priests. It is the Spiritual rebirth that makes us Kings and priests unto God.

Water baptism is only an outward sign of an ALREADY inward experience. You have to be born again and have the inward experience of salvation before you can be baptised in water.

Water baptism is one identifying themself with "Whoever they get baptised into". Thats is why the early Church were baptised, They were identifying themselves with Jesus and an outward sign that they ALREADY belong to Jesus.

catholics don't heal by the power of Jesus, God will never confirm the catholic church. The catholic sacraments weren't instituted by Jesus, HEALING WAS INSTITUDED by Jesus.

Every Born again Christian believer are priests and kings unto God. Rev 5: 9. We are a Holy Priesthood, 1 Pet 2: 5.

A Royal Priesthood, 1 Pet 2: 9.

PLEASE NOTE, The Bible's God given five fold Ministers are,

"Apostles, Prophets, Evengelists Pastors and Teachers".

PLEASE NOTE, No Priesthood or priests, Thats because every Christian is a priest unto God. But not every Christian is in the five fold Ministry.

PLEASE NOTE, How can my interpretation of the Bible be severly lacking???.

So ther is no 3rd option, You either believe and eccept the Bible's teachings or you don't, I WILL BELIEVE AND ECCEPT WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS.

Why in the world would I need your deepest sympathy for??

For the same reason you don't understand why. To explain would violate board rules.
