I mean, I have a facsimile Book of Commandments, 1835 D&C, and photocopies of the Evening and Morning Star. But put together in such a nice volume with copious notes? And selections from the 1840 D&C, and other cool material? *drool*

Mormon Dude Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I saw the Revelations & Translations, Volume 1: Manuscript Revelation Books (small, non-facsimile edition) at my local bookstore today. Wonder how well it will sell when you can get the large facsimile version for about the same price? Anyhow it does have glossy pages, and is in color like the facsimile version (unlike Volume 1 of the journals series which was just plain old paper w/ the photos in B&W). It also has a few facsimiles of a couple important documents, and does look very similar to the facsimile version, so I took some photos! Sorry I usually spend my time on the skyscraper forums for SLC and we love photos there, so I just had to do this.

I was actually surprised to see the non-facsimile version of Vol. 1 since deseretbook.com only has it available for pre-order, so I figured it hadn't been released yet. I saw this one in my local office supply store which just happens to carry some LDS books since there is no Deseret Book or Seagull Book around.

Reproduce herein as high-quality photographs are the Book of Commandments (1833); the first edition of the Doctrine and Covenants (1835), including the portion that has come to be known as the "Lectures on Faith"; and seven additional texts added to the second edition of the Doctrine and Covenants (1844). Reproduced herein as transcripts are twenty-six complete or partial revelation texts published in the church newspaper The Evening and the Morning Star (1832-1833) and its later, reprinted version, Evening and Morning Star (1835-1836). Because these newspaper versions were produced in connection with editing and typesetting work on the Book of Commandments and the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants, they are critical sources for understanding the textual history of the revelations.This volume of The Joseph Smith Papers also includes two appendixes that provide important related material. The first is a proposed reconstruction of what likely would have been included in the final thirty-two pages of the Book of Commandments, had the print shop not been destroyed mid-run by vigilantes. The second presents selected photographs of a copy of the Book of Commandments owned by Oliver Cowdery and marked up to prepare revelations for publication in the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants.Revelations and Translations, Volume 2 goes hand in hand with Manuscript Revelations Books, the first volume in this series.
