Bsix Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I remember on my mission...a long time ago...that there was a Charismatic underground movement within the Catholic congregations where I served.Protestant Charismatics were trying to convert Catholics from inside their own churches. In some cases, there would be...for the lack of a better word...double agents. These were Charismatic Catholics who knew that their beliefs and practices were out of alignment with the Catholic Church...but stayed embedded for the purpose of witnessing and converting to other Catholic. (This was a long time ago...and most likely limited to the general area that I served in.)The Protestant Charismatics were very excited about the wave of Catholics that were embracing their religious experience.What does all this have to do with this thread??? Read on...Charismatic Christianity embraces a Pentacostal form of spiritualism...speaking in tongues...and other supernatural manifestations. The Protestant Charismatics were pretty cool with the Catholic Charismatics until their Catholic counterparts started exhibiting Gifts of the Spirit that they could not explain, nor would they accept.Visions of MarySaintly visitationsVisions of the Holy Grail etc.Thus, the same core question of this thread became an issue. I had not heard of the Protestant role with Catholic Charismatics. My mother was a Catholic Charismatic. Although it was not mainstream, neither was it seen as being against the church in our community.
Vance Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 But both can be spiritual experiences.That is thought provoking.In addition, one could consider that when you, of your own intellect (intelligence, or spirit) have a bright idea (that is neither of the two kinds that you mention) it is a spiritual experience as well (communion with your own intelligence).The problem, that I have noticed in some, is that they confuse this type of "spiritual" experience with the first or former one you mentioned.
