Name of the Church

Continuing with the fiery darts meant to create a "crisis of faith" for the Latter-day Saint on a certain website not worth naming: the four times that the name of the restored Church has been changed.

Apparently, it is of no concern to this supposedly Christian critic that his neighbor can be a Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, etc., yet still be a member of the inspired church set up by Christ. Variation in names of a church is only a problem for one who espouses "Mormon" tenets.

My thoughts: Is it of any consequence whatsoever whether we refer to our denomination as the Church of Christ or the Church of Jesus Christ? Is it not exactly the same thing?

And is it not common sense to see that the tag "of Latter-day Saints" is a temporal, not an eternal addition, to the above name/s?

The only concern I might have is the brief period when we were apparently known as the Church of the Latter-day Saints. I vaguely remember a good explanation someone posted up here long ago.

Church of Christ is a name held by some protestant churches and not to be confused with the Temple Lot group. The Church of Jesus Christ is William Bickerton's group but possibly not exclusively.

As a member of Community of Christ, our church had to stop the Restoration Branches from using The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because it is a corporated name.

Just as well, the Utah LDS cannot use The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because that name belongs to James Strang's group.

I am not sure if I answered your question but I thought I would try.

I'm going to start a new thread regarding the Community of Christ vs. Restoration Branches lawsuits over the RLDS name/church seal.

So I came up with a new label for the Church, to shorten things, seeing as "The Church," doesn't work for outsiders and "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," is too long and since "The LDS Church" doesn't bare Christ's name: The LDS Chuch of Jesus Christ. Eh? Eh? How about this catches on? I say yeah. (Sadly, this was something I was honestly thinking about).

Back to the point of this thread. Really, it doesn't matter what you call the Church, as long as it has Christ's name and apparently it's important to differentiate it from other churches and Christ's original Church. People only get so nitpicky, when they're on the attack. People get on the attack due to anger or fear. Not very Christian.
