Sacred Time

Yet 5642 was certainly and indisputably a sabbatical year of the deepest significance. Many Yemenite Jews took it as a signal for emigrating to Israel, following song of Solomon 7:8, "I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof." 5642 contained the same letters as on the palm tree. Of course there were also practical considerations, but the messianic spirit was certainly there.

You may be right. I just noticed that the 2nd edition of Jack Finegan's Handbook of Biblical Chronology (Hendrickson, 1998), agrees with Zuckermann against Wacholder -- Wacholder being one year later in his Sabbatical correlation. As to the Jubilees, Finegan agrees that they are impossible to establish. Difficult to be certain at this far remove from the days when such dates were well known.

Bump, don't dump!

Ok, I'll drop a tantalising hint from a post I'm working on. The voice of the turtledove and the year 1840.

While Volga's typing about stuff far more interesting than what I'm about to type, here are the highlights of JSJr's life: a '94 Ensign Article.

I likewise remind the learned gentlemen (and hlafdige) of an important date in Jewish history (24 October 1841); linkee: http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=b056b850e318b010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____&vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD

Which, in a nutshell, is the focus of my upcoming post.

One of my favorite dates, and an endeavor in which I have actively participated -- in the spirit of A. D. Gordon -- once upon a time.

In location as well as spirit? His grave was 5 minutes away from my elementary school, and we went there often. There is a museum nearby which contains items from Gordon's study. Cool stuff.

Certainly a true Mensch, and one who showed us how we could be in sacred time in practical terms, mixing our blood and sweat with the soil -- building Zion the same way there as the Mormon pioneers have here.
