Maya Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Worship more than one God? ... but so does, so called, Christianity too: They say usually that God is God, Jesus is God, so that is more than one, after my math. Even if they worship Father God as the ONLY God, leaving Jesus to somekind of vague part of him that comes out of closet when ever needed... not mentioning HS. I red about Henoteism, that Henoteism does NOT deny other Gods but WORSHIPS ONLY ONE! Christianity do not deny other Gods than Fther so they are henoteisics saying that Jesus is God!?This is a silmpe misunderstanding of Godhod/God. In Godhod God is God, Jesus and Holy Spirit follow his comands and serve Him. So Who is God, is this monoteism or henoteism? Islam denyes ANY other Gods, than All Mighty and so does the Jewish... so WHAT do they miss so we would not believe they are right and their religion the right one? Right Jesus, SON OF ALL MIGHTY. So the Son as the Father... so are they 2 or one? 2 Gods or 1 God? With Holy Spirit 3, but stil one Goodhead. So after my account Islamic and Jews are the ONLY monoteists.
thews Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Worship more than one God? ... but so does, so called, Christianity too: They say usually that God is God, Jesus is God, so that is more than one, after my math. Then your math is wrong. Jesus is God in man = the same. One entity is not two "personages".Even if they worship Father God as the ONLY God, leaving Jesus to somekind of vague part of him that comes out of closet when ever needed... not mentioning HS. Jesus Christ is the "Highest" God in Christian theology. Just because you believe something different doesn't make your logic forced into what others believe. I red about Henoteism, that Henoteism does NOT deny other Gods but WORSHIPS ONLY ONE! Christianity do not deny other Gods than Fther so they are henoteisics saying that Jesus is God!? This make no sense... you don't seem to understand what a monotheist is. A monothesit believes in one and only one God. Jesus Christ is God = the same God.This is a silmpe misunderstanding of Godhod/God. In Godhod God is God, Jesus and Holy Spirit follow his comands and serve Him. So Who is God, is this monoteism or henoteism? So after my account Islamic and Jews are the ONLY monoteists. Why do LDS people (my experience anyway) always try and redefine what other religions encompass? According to Joseph Smith, he saw "two persoanges" and clearly taught that Jesus Christ and God were separate "personages". Why not just accept what Joseph Smith taught if you believe Joseph Smith was a prophet of God? What's so wrong about believing in plural Gods? Why does the definition of monotheism need to be changed to fit what Joseph Smith taught, as he clearly, without any doubt whatsoever taught of plural Gods in the Book of Abraham, which is cannonized Mormon doctrine. Would you agree?
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Then your math is wrong. Jesus is God in man = the same. One entity is not two "personages".Were in the bible can I find a verse of scripture that tells me that God the Father and Jesus are one entity. I can not find any verse that tells us that. In fact there are several taht alludes to them being separet personages.Oh but wait we aren't talking about thte bible but mormonsim. Right. Were did Jesus say that "He was the Highest God?". Oh this brings up another point form the other thread, If there is a "highest God" then that means there must be lower Gods and hence more than one, if that is not the case then why would we need to be told that he is the "highest" if there is only one.
Calm Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 You say this:Why do LDS people (my experience anyway) always try and redefine what other religions encompass? And then spend the rest of your post insisting on redefining Mormonism for us. Perhaps LDS are simply trying to point out to you what you are doing to them originally?----You say one entity is not two personages. Do you believe one entity is two persons?
Calm Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Note that in common usage, "person" and "personage" are synonyms for each other: http://thesaurus.ref...m/browse/personThat it means something different theologically for certain sects is a result of those sects redefining the word "person". I have no problem if they choose to do so, but it should be recognized that not all see it the same way. It also seems problematic to me that while they allow the redefintion in their particular case, they refuse others (LDS in this case) the same identical redefintion. I do not understand the reasoning of "it's okay for us to do it, but not you".If LDS are redefining "monotheism", they are merely following in the footsteps of the classic Trinitarians, the only difference is our redefintion is not so sweeping.

This is basically what I have been getting at in this thread and the other one. For some reason "it's okay for Thews to do it, but not Mormons".
Calm Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I think you hit the nail on the head. This is basically what I have been getting at in this thread and the other one. For some reason "it's okay for Thews to do it, but not Mormons".It appears at least in this thread (I have not read the other thread, this appears to be more on topic) that thews is avoiding answering this issue I've asked him directly about and others have referred to as well.(add-on: this is the issue that I try to figure out each time this topic comes up. I've appreciated past efforts of nonLDS to try and help me resolve it, but as evidence that it still doesn't make sense to me...even if I understand at times a rationale and the assumptions it's based on, it appears to be an arbitrary line drawn in the sand. I cannot remember the explicit details of those explanations for why the line is drawn there. Explanations I can understand I remember. I do understand the rationale for the redefintion of "persons" as something different---in the sense of a 'division that is not a division' --from the Divine Being "God".)
Calm Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 And thews disappears from the board for the 4th, 5th? time without answering this question though it's now been posted on three threads he is responding on....
erichard Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 ... Why does the definition of monotheism need to be changed to fit what Joseph Smith taught, as he clearly, without any doubt whatsoever taught of plural Gods in the Book of Abraham, which is cannonized Mormon doctrine. Would you agree?thews,The Bible record came from the Prophets of Israel. Later, people used the wisdom of the Greek philosophers to define what the Bible actually teaches about God. But should not the Prophets of Israel be the ones who define what the Bible teaches? Cannot the Lord do his own work? You, in fact, may believe that the allegory of the Plato cave is a very wise story. But whatever value it may have, I honestly believe you would be best to forsake the wisdom of the world and listen strictly to the Prophets of the Lord. When you say: "Then your math is wrong. Jesus is God in man = the same. One entity is not two "personages"." all you are doing is explaining the Bible in creedal terms. But the creeds were developed by philosophers, they did not come as the Word of the Lord to the prophets of Israel. Until you are ready to throw out the creeds, you will never realize that the same God who brought forth the Bible has also brought forth more revelation in our day. This was promised in John 16:12-13. This new revelation "defines" monotheism according to Lord, and not according to the creedal understanding. The only reason "two personages" cannot be ONE God is because Plato and other philosophers say otherwise. But who are they to tell the Lord what is the truth?Richard
