Deborah Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I have my own one of the three Nephites stories, but it is only my surmise that this is who this person was. I don't tell it first of all because of this but second even if it wasn't one of the three Nephites it's pretty amazing and will be met with skepticism and ridicule and because it's too special to share in an open forum of a class or discussion board. I've only told it to a few and either met with the skepticism or had agreement it was one of the Three.

They were dressed in strange clothes and they asked me if I believed the end was near. I said yes and turned around and they were GONE!On the back seat there was a Sunday School manual!It was a strange experience....

I almost didn't become a priest.

They were like Joseph wondering which church they should join. One afternoon three travelers stopped at their house. As was the custom of the times they were invited to stay the night. After eating they were discussing religion with the strangers and finally got around to wondering about which church to join. The travelers told the family that they should be patient as the true church was not yet on the earth but soon would be. They described what it would be like. The next morning the travelers took their leave and did not return to visit the family but they had left a description of the doctrines and organization of the church such that a few years later when missionaries visited the family immediatly joined the church and were very active in early missionary work.

What the Church does not want is what happens in some other churches, where members see the face of Mary on the backs of freeway signs or in clouds or behind every bush and tree. There are genuine sacred experiences and these experiences are probably too sacred to talk about in Sunday School class. We do not talk about temple content in there, either, for the same reason. There is such a thing as casting pearls before swine and Sunday School is just a little too public, to say the least, for relating your latest story about your visit from Jesus Christ the night before.Further, it is not good that sacred things would be defiled by people who might, and I am not thinking of anyone or any particular incident specifically, but who just might be mistaken about some things. I strongly suspect that the three Nephites do not change tires, for example. Neither do Jesus or Mary simply "appear" and not say or do anything. I have always wondered why any church will believe that three little girls in France would see Mary, but that Joseph Smith could not possibly have seen Jesus Christ, or that there is some valuable message to be derived from stigmata, but not from a prophet's call to repent.As for churches believing that the apostasy never too place because John has remained on the earth, why, then, do they not trace their priesthood to him? We do.
MatthewG Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 One of the most memorable Three Nephite stories I've heard pertains to a newspaper that carried an account of three men from Nephi, Utah, who died in an airplane accident. As I recall the story, the newspaper started some readers with its headline: "3 Nephites Killed in Plane Crash." LMAO I almost woke my wife laughing at that one.

Kimball walked in (he was visiting his son in the other ward in our building) and our bishop was so flustered that he couldn't even announce the opening prayer.Jane
Eden* Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Consiglieri I wouldn't pay too much to a foot note in the in the Gospel Doctrine teacher's manual, it was written by secular academics at BYU not by Church Authorities, I wouldn't place too much stock in it. Don't loose any sleep over it.

It is almost like Wilford Woodruff's experience, though his was a close friend that had a dream.
