RubyHunter Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 So, I was reading in the other thread about the line of priesthood authority. I know my father has a copy, and I had seen it. HOWEVER, It led me to ask, where can I get mine? So, I called Dad and he said that I could contact SLC and get a copy from the church. So, I pose this question to you, the readers. Who do I call to get my hands on a copy of my Priesthood Line of Authority?Point of contact? Phone number? Etc?Thanks in advance.

cdowis Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 1 Timothy 25For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; That is a doctrine of the LDS church. And the church is lead by Christ through His authorized priesthood. Hasn't anyone told you yet that the Aaronic and Melchezidek preisthood aren't present among the members of the NT church, at least according to the Bible,Please give us the reference where it says that it is not present among the members. I have read the Bible many times, and seemed to have missed that. but I know that the Bible is missing many plain and precious truths that were removed by the Catholic great and abominable church. And the Bible tells us in the first few verses of Acts that Christ taught the disciples for forty days, and nothing is recorded of those teachings. Perhaps you know what it was that He taught, or is it possible that the Bible does not contain all of the teachings of Christ, including the doctrine of the priesthood. We find some information on the priesthood scattered thru the NT, especially Ephesians and Hebrews. That is why we have living prophets.Christ never intended for theologians, philosophers, and scholars to replace the living prophets. The writings of the ancient prophets (the Bible) was never intended to replace modern revelation. The scribes and Pharasees rejected the living prophets for their interpretation of the older scriptures, and you are making the same error.
Billy Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 cdowis states,"Please give us the reference where it says that it (Aaronic and Melchezekek Priesthood) is not present among the members. I have read the Bible many times, and seemed to have missed that."Billy replies,Please give us a verse that states that the members did have the Aaronic or Melchezedek Priesthood. Christ is a priest after the order of Melchezedek, but no mention is made about any of the apostles or members having this priesthood. There is mention of having the "keys of the kingdom" but it is a stretch to say the the"keys of the kingdom"=Aaronic or Melchezedek priesthood. In 1 Peter is says the believers are a chosen people a royal priesthood. This is not a Aaronic or Melchezedek priesthood, and it is not restricted to men only. 1 Peter 2:9 "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."cdowis states,And the Bible tells us in the first few verses of Acts that Christ taught the disciples for forty days, and nothing is recorded of those teachings. Perhaps you know what it was that He taught, or is it possible that the Bible does not contain all of the teachings of Christ, including the doctrine of the priesthood. Billy replies,You are right, he could of told them about the priesthood during these 40 days, along with many other doctrine that seem to be fairly specific to the LDS faith, which are not really presented in the Biblical account. But I think that you would have to agree that most of these are from modern day revelation i.e. mostly from Joseph Smith.1. Aaronic Priesthood2. Melchezedek Priesthood for members3. Marriage in heaven4. Polygamy the eternal principle5. Pre-earth life--the fact that we have always co-existed with God as intelligences 6. Mother in Heaven7. No real Hell but 3 degrees of glory8. I have read the Bible many times, and seemed to have missed that."Billy replies,Please give us a verse that states that the members did have the Aaronic or Melchezedek Priesthood.Same old Billy, duck a question by asking one. As Cdowis pointed out, there are tantalizing hints to this priesthood scattered throughout the Scriptures. Now- answer the question put to you.Christ is a priest after the order of Melchezedek, but no mention is made about any of the apostles or members having this priesthood. You have this precisely backwards (as usual, Bully).Mechizedek was a priest after the Order of the Son of God- not the otherway round. And, you're arguing from silence- it's already been pointed out to you that the Bible is incomplete on what Christ taught his disciples. And because your vine has dwindled in unbelief and biblioatry, you will not accept other, authoritative sources.Stalemate. We cannot offer living waters to those who will not drink. There is mention of having the "keys of the kingdom" but it is a stretch to say the the"keys of the kingdom"=Aaronic or Melchezedek priesthood. In 1 Peter is says the believers are a chosen people a royal priesthood. This is not a Aaronic or Melchezedek priesthood, and it is not restricted to men only.Actually, this is an extrabiblical spin invented by sophists and apostates to cover for their lack of legitimate priesthood authority.Billy replies,You are right, he could of told them about the priesthood during these 40 days, along with many other doctrine that seem to be fairly specific to the LDS faith, which are not really presented in the Biblical account. But I think that you would have to agree that most of these are from modern day revelation i.e. mostly from Joseph Smith. That Joseph restored these concepts in no way invalidates them. UNless you can prove he invented them from whole cloth......1. Aaronic Priesthood Not quite- this one is most explicitly Biblical. You might want to brush up on that.2. Melchezedek Priesthood for members3. Marriage in heaven4. Polygamy the eternal principle5. Pre-earth life--the fact that we have always co-existed with God as intelligences 6. Mother in Heaven7. No real Hell but 3 degrees of glory8. Temple workYou are correct that these concepts as we understand them are irrevocably tied to the Restoration Christ commanded Joseph Smith to perform- but that in no way proves that they are not legitimate nor that they are not rooted in antiquity.9. Works based salvationThere is no such concept in LDS theology or belief.Kindly stop attempting to conflate your cultic sacraments with genuine LDS thought.
Billy Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Same old Billy, duck a question by asking one. As Cdowis pointed out, there are tantalizing hints to this priesthood scattered throughout the Scriptures.Tantalizing hints, is that what you are basing your eternal destiny on?Now- answer the question put to you. What is your question?Mechizedek was a priest after the Order of the Son of God- not the otherway round.Do you have a reference for this? And, you're arguing from silence- it's already been pointed out to you that the Bible is incomplete on what Christ taught his disciples.Arguing from silence, the pot calling the kettle black. Aaronic priesthood-- Not quite- this one is most explicitly Biblical. You might want to brush up on that.Could any male become a Aaronic priest according to the Bible? You are correct that these concepts as we understand them are irrevocably tied to the Restoration Christ commanded Joseph Smith to perform-Hey, we agree on one!EditIf the concept of Aaronic and Melchezedek priesthood for members of the NT is not Biblical, what is wrong with simply saying that this was revealed to Joseph Smith by God and started after the restoration? Many different things were new ideas that were not practiced in the NT church, why does is this one any different?
selek Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Tantalizing hints, is that what you are basing your eternal destiny on?Of course not- but I'm not hung up on the extrabiblical concept of sola scriptura.I understand that Christ, in his mercy, has offered us more than one witness/testament to his Gospel and his desires for how the Kingdom should be run. What is your question? Not my question- the one CDowis asked and you've ducked twice now. Your continued evasion suggests that you don't have an answer- but are unwilling to admit it.Do you have a reference for this? None, off the top of my head, that you'd accept. Do you have a reference for your claim that the Son of God was a member of somebody else's priesthood?Arguing from silence, the pot calling the kettle black. Not quite. I have references that state explicitly the nature, order, origination, and proper functioning of the Priesthood.Could any male become a Aaronic priest according to the Bible? No- in the meridian of times, and under the Mosaic or preparatory law, it was reserved to certain bloodlines. Hey, we agree on one!So......you agree that Christ commanded Joseph Smith to carry forward the Restoration. This truly is a banner day. Apostates and anti-Mormons everywhere are hanging thier heads in dismay.
Billy Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Not my question- the one CDowis asked and you've ducked twice now. Your continued evasion suggests that you don't have an answer- but are unwilling to admit it.CDowis's question (I think that this is the question you are talking about-although it is not followed by a question mark)Please give us the reference where it says that it is not present among the members. There is no verse that says that the NT members did not have the Aaronic or Melchezedek priesthood. But you know that this is somewhat of a silly argument because it is like me asking you to show me in the Bible where it says that there are no pink elephants on the sun. This is really just a different version of the argument from silence that you are blaming me of commiting. "The argument from silence (also called argumentum ex silentio in Latin) is generally a conclusion based on silence or lack of contrary evidence." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_silence

LeSellers Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Who do I call to get my hands on a copy of my Priesthood Line of Authority?Ideally, your father should have handed you a copy just after he ordained you. If he has a copy, he should send it to you. Only failing that should you try to get it through Church HQs. It's not really their job, although they do have the resources to do it.Lehi

mnn727 Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 I got my line from the person that ordained me, I had no idea you could get it any other way.

RubyHunter Posted October 25, 2008 Author Posted October 25, 2008 I asked a question. A SIMPLE ONE!It required a single one lined answer from one person. There was no attempt to argue. No attempt to belittle. No attempt to do anything other than ask "Where can I get this".When someone asks you what time it is, do you explain how time is irrelevant, how they are worshiping a sun god ans should know the real jesus and be saved? No?I ASKED A SIMPLE QUESTION!Quit with the rhetoric. I'm done with you. You on my ignore list. Seriously man... get a life. You don't have to argue in EVERY thread just to make yourself feel better.

The OP was on how to obtain his Priesthood line of authority. You tried to derail it by first questioning the LDS Priesthood and then bring in comments that had nothing to do with obtaining a line of authority. It is not surprising coming from you. It would also appear that your whole mission is to do just that. You argue from silence and are not open to being educated on what we believe. You rip our beliefs. It would go much more if you disagreed with us with courtesy but after tons of posts by you all I seem to read from you now is;You are wrong that's not what the Bible say... Show me in the Bible were it says that...My Bible doesn't say that...Hasn't anyone told you yet that the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthood aren't present among the members of the NT church...at least according to the Bible...I have read the Bible many times, and seemed to have missed that."...Could any male become a Aaronic priest according to the Bible?...it is like me asking you to show me in the Bible where it says that there are no pink elephants on the sun....The above represents your whole defense. There are thousands of Christian Church's and none of them have come close to coming in the unity of the faith (Eph 4:13) so I have a much difficulty thinking that your interpretation of scripture is the only correct one. And I find it highly arrogant of you to come into this site and profess LDS are wrong and you are right.... Many EV's on this site have the courtesy to read and analyze our responses and then answer with patient response. Your Modus Operandi suggest you could just paste one of the above answers of yours and you will be set for another thousand posts. I would appreciate if you would read Pahorans, Seleks, DCP, Rommulator, and many others posters with some degree of respect and study before you impulsively say "your wrong my Bible doesn't say that... If it was your father, copy his and add your name and his to it including the date of his and your ordinations. If not, then get the information from the person who ordained you. The Church will no longer be doing these, if I recall correctly.
