God is the "God of gods and Lord of lords", as the Bible says.  

To add to it, such a concept was espoused upon by figures who are (or were) held in high regard in other churches.  They even have similar teachings that have continued, see theosis in Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic traditions.
