Poem to Remember When Coping with Anti-Mormonism

So I recently came across a poem which I really like, and in which I think some of my fellow Latter-day Saints may find sound counsel when coping with and responding to the more virulent strains of Anti-Mormonism (particularly on a regular basis).  The poem is called "Reply to Censure" and was written by Theodor Roethke.  Here it is:

Reply to Censure

Repulse the staring eye,
The hostile gaze of hate,
And check the pedantry
Of those inveterate

Defamers of the good.
They mock the deepest thought,
Condemn the fortitude
Whereby true work is wrought.

Though just men are reviled
When cravens cry them down,
The brave keep undefiled
A wisdom of their own.

The bold wear toughened skin
That keeps sufficient store
Of dignity within,
And quiet at the core.

"Reply to Censure" could be applied to any set of beliefs or conduct, including ones society considers taboo and/or makes illegal.  How, exactly does this afford comfort to LDS?
