Stone holm Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 That wasn't even 'in force' when I went to college in the 70s. I had several friends at the time who went on missions because they wanted to, not because they weren't married yet.Yeah, but I remember that period well. They may have went on missions because they wanted to, and some went on missions because their fiance's were on missions, but the general membership attitude was that only girls that for some reason couldn't find a husband went on missions. Perception is everything and that was the perception regardless of the truth. Even into the 90's when I was a Bishop the preference was that young women marry and start having kids rather than go on a mission. I couldn't even get them to approve mini missions for the YW although they were arranging them for the YM.
