Photo And Portrait Of Joseph Smith

Lighting and camera angles and development and modern digitizing of the photos may inadvertently alter the dimensions. The same is somewhat true if there is a significant age difference between when the photo is taken and when the mask is set as well as damage to the face prior to death.

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

The paper discusses the age difference and the face damage and shows that the mask should still be extremely realiable. And it is hard to say that the dimensions were inadvertently altered when both the portrait and photo have the same dimensions but the mask doesn't. It would be highly unlikely for both portrait and photo to have the same "inadvent" alterations.
