It is rare that someone being confronted will react in any way but to oppose that confrontation.You're right. I guess that is why every testimony that I ever heard in the LDS church started off with "I believe this church is true/Joseph was a prohet/etc.", rather than "I know this church is true/Joseph was a prophet/etc." Im sure you've heard the same thing....yeah right.

Or change "know" to "have strong reason to believe".*shrug*The difference without a distinction is an attempt by critics to use semantics and colloquialisms to create a straw man by assuming the use of the word know is literal and an absolute statement. But even if we do say "we know" they cannot know if the member has had a first hand witness from the Holy Spirit or is expressing a belief based on faith.It reflects a kind of egocentric world view of "if I didn't get an answer you cannot possibly know". 4
