inquiringmind Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I understand it's Mormon doctrine that we all had a pre-mortal existence, but were we actually in heaven (the third heaven, Kolob, or wherever it is that God is)?Where in Mormon scripture does it say we were?(I've looked, and I can't find anything on this.)
Nathair/|\ Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I Lived in HeavenBY JANEEN JACOBS BRADY1. I lived in heaven a long time ago, it is true;Lived there and loved there with people I know. So did you. Then Heav’nly Father presented a beautiful plan,All about earth and eternal salvation for man.2. Father said he needed someone who had enough loveTo give his life so we all could return there above. There was another who sought for the honor divine.Jesus said, “Father, send me and the glory by thine.”3. Jesus was chosen, and as the Messiah he came,Conquering evil and death through his glorious name,Giving us hope of a wonderful life yet to be—Home in that heaven where Father is waiting for me.Words and music: Janeen Jacobs Brady, b. 1934 Copyright © 1987 by Janeen Jacobs Brady. This song may be copied for incidental, noncommercial church or home use.
altersteve Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Good question. I don't think we have any revelation on that. I've always just called it "heaven," though. Whatever that means I'm not really sure.
alter idem Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I understand it's Mormon doctrine that we all had a pre-mortal existence, but were we actually in heaven (the third heaven, Kolob, or wherever it is that God is)?Where in Mormon scripture does it say we were?(I've looked, and I can't find anything on this.)You are correct that it is an LDS belief that we lived a pre-mortal existence with God(D&C 93:29, D&C 138:55-56, Abraham 3:22-23 PofGP are examples) . I believe the assumption is made that if God's home is what we call "heaven" then that's where we were. LDS call 'heaven' the Celestial Kingdom and it's not Kolob. Kolob is a star near heaven, but NOT heaven(Abraham 3:9--PofGP). People seem to make that mistake quite often. If you want more scriptural references to premortal existence in LDS scriptures look in the back in the Index under 'Premortal existence' there are more. There are some in the Bible as well-- Job 38:7, Isaiah 14:13, Luke 10:18, Rev. 12:7
