Pahoran Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Did Jesus live under a Nazarite vow?Did He drink wine (or grapr juice)?Did He really have long hair?Do we know what He looked like?Nobody really knows what Jesus looked like. There is a popular image that appears in some avatars based upon forensic reconstruction of a 1st century Levantine skull. I'm sure it's just as reliable a likeness of Jesus as picking out a random person on the street and assuming that that's what Inquiringmind looks like. But Jesus wasn't a Nazarite, no. John the Baptist was.Jesus is described as drinking something he referred to as "fruit of the vine." I believe that means wine.Regards,Pahoran

Ron Beron Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Did Jesus live under a Nazarite vow?Did He drink wine (or grapr juice)?Did He really have long hair?Do we know what He looked like? Not a Nazarite, but a Nazarene, i.e., he was coming from Nazareth. Men during this time did not have long hair contrary to modern illustrators. A beard? Yes, but no long hair. Consider Paul in 'Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him?' (1st Corinthians 11:14). Like today long hair was considered rebellious. As to drink? Why not? It was one of the few ways to drink pure water without pollutants and since he was not under a Nazarite vow he could do so.As to what he looked like I don't think it is all that important. My wife's aunt recently past away due to Alzheimer's and her fear was that she would forget what Jesus looked like. She was told that it didn't matter because Jesus would remember what she looked like.
