kitmarlow Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I guess if Consig is an "anti-Mormon", I am too--although I was in the temple a week ago and even do my home teaching.
rockslider Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I have no clue what this sentance meansif I ever had any testimony concept sealed by the power of the Holy Ghost upon me, it was that Adam is the only God to which we have to do. Sorry I'm bad with words. For eight years of my life, I worked as an ordinance worker in the Temple on Thursday and Friday nights. Every week, I began a fast as I started my Thursday night shift, and I ended this fast after my Friday night shift ended. I sought diligently for my Calling and Election, doing all I could to learn of personal revelation and to be taught by the spirit - especially while in the temple. It was under these conditions that I was taught, not only by the endowment, and by mentors who had worked 20 plus years in the temple, but also by the spirit, by a "witness of the spirit" or even worse, the sealing of a teaching by Holy Spirit of Promise. And all these years of apostasy later - I cannot deny those teachings. If there is a God, to/for me, it's Adam.

I was genuinely confused and believed that I had missed something in the previous posts. I knew nothing of the Adam-God theory until I left the LDS Church. Still not sure what to make of it.
bookofmormontruth Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Consig, I posted for you. If, after your studies of this, you found some enlightenment, don't be ashamed of it, but don't bother posting about it, you will only be ridiculed.I can assure you that some of the greatest minds and men I knew, who had dedicated their lives to the Temple, understood this as doctrine and as exactly what the endowment was presenting
rockslider Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 OK. That I can understand. I wasn't trying to criticize your use of words. I was genuinely confused and believed that I had missed something in the previous posts. I knew nothing of the Adam-God theory until I left the LDS Church. Still not sure what to make of it.No problem, I was not offended. I just wanted to share the fact that many of us of the Baby Boomer generation held these things most sacred. Seems it's simply pearls before swine, even to modern day TBM's.This is why Hinckley's "I'm not sure we teach that" hurt some of us so badly.Either it's a more enlighten generation, or a more "religiously correct" one. Take your pick. But don't feel bad, the leaders have spent decades trying to kill it. After all the persecution of polygamy, which had biblical answers, the early 1900's church did not feel it could survive the persecution that his totally non-biblical doctrine would bring about.
bookofmormontruth Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Riddle me this: Why are those who have left the Church (self admitted) and apostates (self admitted) so fascinated by the so called A-G theory? It is only brought up by those looking in yet feel they have the "sacred" duty to define our doctrines. And no offense intended, but not impressed with "worked in the Temple" credentials.
BookofMormonLuvr Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Of all the uniquely "Mormon" teachings I learned in my years in the LDS Church and short foray in Fundamentalist Mormonism, Adam-God is by far the most beautiful of them, even if I don't personally believe it anymore. I can't fault anyone who believes it after learning about it.

Spiritual experiences are something I try to never belittle. We may disagree on doctrine but someone elses spiritual experiences are every bit as valid as my own.
rockslider Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Well, you definitely convinced me! Where do I sign up to hear more about this "secret" doctrine? Or is this knowledge only for the "enlightened" and the exceptionally "spiritual" who have the "greatest minds"?There was a time that these things (the likes of one achieving their calling and election) were very real to us. They were a promise, even the Oath and Covenant promise of the Administration of Angels to those who achieved an Aaronic level mastery, and the Knowledge of the Mysteries of Godliness to those who move into the Melchizedek arena. We believed this, and sought it as if a quest, knowing that it was going to be a very long an perilous journey, As any who had sought it, were always brought deeply into the depths of hell before achieving it. I'm sorry for your disrespect in this, but not to worry; it's totally expected and understood.

None of us take this need seriously since it is the same pattern that is shown over and over from those who have left the Church.

There seems to be no more doctrine, not what I used to consider doctrine anyway.

I come here because this is the religion I know best and my family are still members.

Those that also apostatized? You are right, I have no respect for false doctrines and those who stand in the large and spacious building while trying to "correct" what they see wrong within the Lord's Church. The same Church they left. Imagine that!

There seems to be no more doctrine, not what I used to consider doctrine anyway.I think Mr. Truth would be surprised out how many active members believe the teaching, but just don't talk about it, precisely because of people such as himself who are ready to ex anyone they feel doesn't align with their stringent modern day view of LDS doctrine.

Or is just easy to mock the Lord's Church? And yes, I am fully guilty in mocking those who have left (etc..) and now are pointing their fingers while hiding behind their computers. I definitely have respect for those who can leave the Lord's Church and actually move on with their lives and enjoy it. You know, a life.

Fail.We talk about our religious experiences because that is what we know and have experienced. How much sense would it make for me to waltz into a Jehovah's Witness forum and discuss my religious journey? Not much.

rockslider Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Basically you are saying this:People you thought had great minds (which meant they could not be wrong) believed fervently an idea or theory (which may or may not be accurate) and that was sufficient for you to consider it doctrine.I don't think it works quite that way.Actually it was more of a "rubbing elbows" while heavily engaged in the Lord's work, twice a week, for eight years. You're right, for the most part they were unknown men. Simple farmers from Lehi and Spanish fork, Factory workers from Geneva Iron works, or everyday business men from the Utah valley. Many born around 1915, with few after 1950 (Second Anointing records were still public and growing during those years).I loved these men. We not only shared in the work, but shared in the rewards of men engaged with the desire to do the Lord's will and his work.
rockslider Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Never made the claim you were "attacking", but hey at least you got your personal jab in towards Lord's Church right? And after-all it is only natural to support your "own".My wife attends the Temple regularly, as do my three married (all in the temple) children. Yes I support my own - same, and only woman for 30 years now.
