Daniel Peterson Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I don't even think a Watson letter via Hamblin is gonna help! This just ain't fantasy land! LolI don't typically like to call "Troll!" but, taken in conjunction with a pretty consistent pattern of odd behavior over a lengthy period of time, the comment above pretty much demands it. Something under the bridge smells bad.
volgadon Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 There is also his recent football thread to add to the mix.
DanGB Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I don't typically like to call "Troll!" but, taken in conjunction with a pretty consistent pattern of odd behavior over a lengthy period of time, the comment above pretty much demands it. Something under the bridge smells bad.LOL!!!! Oh geeze Dan! I don't think I am the only one with a sense of humor here! While I don't pretend to know the the history of this "Watson Letter" thingy, one can't deny the humor and calamity generated by reading the recent soap opera of related posts!! Come on, get a sense of humor and lighten up. Go to a football game or two and have some fun, get some passion!!!!If my presence here bothers you, I doubt you don't need to fake a "troll" thing! I suspect you got enough juice to take care of it directly! But one tough game to sit through last nite. Good to finally be back in Texas, but not without thoughts of what "might have been" had we not lost Colt so early!
volgadon Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 I'm almost tempted to believe you, but you had too go and post this. This just ain't fantasy land!
volgadon Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Go to a football game or two and have some fun, get some passion!!!!I don't find much to get passionate about in watching American football, or, for that matter, most other sports.
DanGB Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I don't find much to get passionate about in watching American football, or, for that matter, most other sports. For some reason Volgy, I could already tell that about you!!!
volgadon Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 For some reason Volgy, I could already tell that about you!!!OTOH, when I served in the army, in 2004 I watched Maccabi Tel-Aviv play for the world cup in basketball. We won as a result of an incredible against-all-odds long pass. My friend and I kicked over the table we had our feet on.There is plenty I'm passionate about, sports just aren't among them, so spare me the red-blooded all-American disdain.
volgadon Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 And since it seems like you have some time, lets get back on topic.
Daniel Peterson Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Volgadon is a young Israeli. Ever met one, DanGB?LOL!!!! Go to a football game or two and have some fun, get some passion!!!!Golly. Yeah. I guess I'll have to develop a sense of . . . humor, you call it?And passion? Maybe that'll be the next step. Thanks, pardner. You may have just saved my life.If my presence here bothers you, I doubt you don't need to fake a "troll" thing!Oh, I wasn't faking. (Note to self: Resist the urge to make the really devastatingly witty and obvious response about people "faking it" in DanGB's experience that immediately occurred to you. It would be unseemly.)I suspect you got enough juice to take care of it directly!Right. And that's another one right out of the Compound's playbook: Poor wimpy Danny always runs to the Moderators to get mighty critics banned when, as routinely happens, they've got him backed into a corner.
DanGB Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Volgadon is a young Israeli. Ever met one, DanGB?WOW! Dan, what could possibly be your point, other than baiting some juvenile discussion that I have no interest in, with this type of comment??? Would you want the same type of human, ethnic, nationality, and/or demographic inquiry done in return?? Sorry but wife and I are going out w some close friends from our ward for some great SA hospitality. Don't have any desire to this type of exchange tonight but will share it with them if you wish!!!
volgadon Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Yet all the time in the world for a dig at the MI, or at people that don't care for American football.Come on, Dan, don't lets forget what apparently was a burning issue for you when you posted that first thread.
volgadon Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Dan, I thin DCP's point is that Israeli's have even less interest in American football than Texans have in football (soccer for you).
Daniel Peterson Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 WOW! Dan, what could possibly be your point, other than baiting some juvenile discussion that I have no interest in, with this type of comment??? Would you want the same type of human, ethnic, nationality, and/or demographic inquiry done in return??I don't think that my implication that young Israelis aren't the passionless, unathletic, wimpy nothings that you seemed to imply Volgadon to be -- and that you've several times suggested that I am -- is any any way insulting to young Israelis.Israel, you may or may not recall, is a small and very hard-working country in a very tough neighborhood. It's under constant threat from the inside and from the outside, and it requires universal military service of its youth.Sorry but wife and I are going out w some close friends from our ward for some great SA hospitality. Don't have any desire to this type of exchange tonight but will share it with them if you wish!!!Whatever. You've seemed to have an unreasonable chip on your shoulder from the beginning. Why stop now?
DanGB Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Dan, I thin DCP's point is that Israeli's have even less interest in American football than Texans have in football (soccer for you).Well, given his verbose response above, which couldn't be farther from your thoughts expressed, you may want to ask him not to be your interpretor\spokesman in the future!!!! He seemes to believe he knows how to articulate your response better than you can!! But entertaining anyway!LOL!
volgadon Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 I am fallible. I didn't gauge correctly DCP's point to you. It was far more withering than mine. You have completely missed it.However, why don't you try addressing the real issue here?
volgadon Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Simply put, when you go to extreme lengths to avoid adddressing the point in the OP, it is fairly obvious to anyone reading this thread that you are up to something.
Daniel Peterson Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Well, given his verbose response above, which couldn't be farther from your thoughts expressed, you may want to ask him not to be your interpretor\spokesman in the future!!!! He seemes to believe he knows how to articulate your response better than you can!! But entertaining anyway!LOL!You seem to be playing a game. It's not clear what your game is, except that it involves a lot of sneering and personal hostility, isn't even remotely entertaining, and seems to have no substantive point. There's an uncanny resemblance between you and the anti-Mormon poster over at the Compound who calls himself "Joey.".
Daniel Peterson Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Ya know Dan, I have a great lust for life.LOL. So you keep telling us.By contrast, we pale, wraith-like types, entirely unacquainted with full, red-blooded, zesty life of the kind that you live every minute of every day, can only envy you.I will leave you to deal with your paranoia, persecution, and insecurity tonightThanks! I enjoy spending quality one-on-one time with them alone, anyhow.
DanGB Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Here is a link to a work by the late Raphael Patai of the Hebrew University, The Children of Noah, a work on ancient Hebrew seafaring in which he includes a bit on Nephi. There is also a bit on the Jaredites. Search the book for Book of Mormon, Nephi, Joseph Smith, you get the picture.http://books.google.com/books?id=kX7YXtI4POkC&dq=the+children+of+noah&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=7eL6r8GyMM&sig=AQU65CCLmjo007VUxKZ9F-ugq7g&hl=en&ei=3nFBS6ixD4ywswON553HBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=7&ved=0CCcQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=&f=falseOk Volgadon, let me give it my last response. Don't know much about Patai or his influence. But what specific LDS piece of scholarship does he cite on BOM historicity ( my original inquiry) that he found convincing?I don't question that LDS scholars find their own works in this are convincing. And on technical merit it may warrant such accolades, I really don't know. But it would be like Coach and Bro. Reid, in the locker room of the Eagles, or in front of the Eagles owners or team members claiming: "I have a well respected playbook, put together with the greatest minds available, with the greatest players and dedication. I challenge anyone to look at my play book and find any faults".Internally it all sounds great and beyond criticism. But until the rest of the league, sports scholars, and shear demonstration on the professional field is consumated, it means nothing nor has convinced his profession or professional peers. But give Bro Reid credit for submitting his scholarship for publication and review to the professional community every week! It's acceptance speaks for itself!
volgadon Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Try page 21.And the appendix is an essay by LDS scholar John Lindquist, an essay commissioned by Raphael Patai. One doesn' commission such things for a serious work if one considers them bunk.So in other words, a distinguished Jewish, Israeli scholar found the ancient seafaring traditions in the BoM convincing enough to have an LDS scholar write an essay on them, which was then included in a book.
