"Most of us will not see God, as the prophets have."

Why should a prophet, seer or revelator be scared off by the skeptics? Why not just boldly proclaim the truths they know and let the chips fall where they will?

Look, I'm not trying to make fun of them. Just consider this. I personally do not believe there is any resurrected Jesus Christ and I am agnostic about the belief in God. The brethren say exactly what I would expect them to say in their position. If it were key to the religion that their followers believed they were in direct conversation with God and they were not, then you would expect them to allude to it in ways that allow the faithful to interpret it their way. I don't think they are liars. I believe they have had experiences of strong emotional confirmation or transcendence that are common in all religions. I don't believe they have seen Jesus because I believe that to be impossible. They have said nothing to make me think otherwise.

So what they are doing, whether intended or not, is to speak to both the believers and the skeptics at the same time.

Perhaps they are saying what God would have them say. Perhaps since God loves all of His children both skeptic and believer He wants to keep the door open on both so that perhaps they might feel His words in their hearts. If they were to boldly declare they have seen God or Christ, perhaps that might discourage some, not having that priviledge. It also is probably true that not all of us will have that priviledge in this life. But note also that it was said that the Holy Ghost is the means designed for all of us to come to a sure knowledge of the truth. Which is more believable seeing with our eyes that can easily be deceived by magicians and imposters or the confirming power of the Holy Ghost? What is the power of faith and why is it so important? Faith is the first principle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and why do you suppose that is the case? Because without faith nothing else (visions, revelations, or salvation) is every possible.

He is just saying this in his own way:

John 20: 29

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

You'll have to ask the Lord that question. He commanded Joseph Smith not to re-translate the lost 116 pages.

John, there is nothing they could say to convince you otherwise. If they said they had seen Him just this morning, wouldn't you assume they were lying, deluded, or otherwise wrong? Even Peter who walked with Christ had to gain his testimony through the Holy Ghost, a fact the Lord acknolwedged, calling Peter "blessed" in the process.

Better question... why don't you know?

But I do.

I know my own thoughts. I am wondering by what power of discernment you can speak clearly about my future mental dispositions? Unless you are just making stuff up...

Actually, I posed a question about your future mental disposition. I wrote "wouldn't you assume...?"

And in regards to my second question "Why don't you know?" I was addressing the topic of the thread.

You must think all Hindus are liars.

I have no opinion of the Hindus. I know nothing about them. But I would never bad-mouth another religion.
