Smith Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I am tired of politics.AMEN brother.... but what has that got to do with your questions?My question is, If the Lamanites destroyed all who believed in Christ, were they 1. destroyed or were they 2. among those who defected to the Lamanites or 3. was there a group of Josephites somewhere else that had been seperated from the group in Zarahemla and were thus preserved in order to hearken unto the words of the book.I am with Option 3. I think, as bro Nibley loved to point out and also as Margaret Barker has mentioned to, that there seems to be a number of occurances of the Rechabite principle taking place in Israelite history. So I think chances are that small group up and off'ed when they saw things going rotten. Also the left overs of the Lehite family after the Nephite destruction would still qualify as the descendants of Joseph and so the preface of the Book of Mormon states - "Wherefore, it is an abridgment of the record of the people of Nephi, and also of the Lamanitesâ??Written to the Lamanites, who are a remnant of the house of Israel; "

So many things have been so extensively debated that it is hard to find something new to talk about. And with poitics, there may be new faces but the discussion is still the same. Maybe that is why it is normally prohibited on this board. So put on your thinking hat and come up with some interesting new topics for some new threads. Then of course most people prefer to spend a lot of their time beating dead horses. By the way, the first two volumes of Brant Gardners commentary on the Book of Mormon are now available in bookstores. Just in time to stimulate conversation as we study the BoM in Sunday School this year. That and the Priesthood manual on Joseph Smith should bring out the armchair commentators from the woodwork.Larry P
