As a heads up, Drower's classic work is available online in its entirety.

And Note to Self:

I wanna talk about this, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Have you read the section on baptism? There are interesting conceptions of anointing, garments of light, and ritual handshakes.

It is fascinating that the concept is one of movement from the lightworld to this, which more than merely prepares the believer for life in the lightworld, it transforms him or her. This is realised through ritual.

They are fascinating and Lady Drower a compelling writer. If you enjoy it, I recommend Jorunn Jacobsen Buckley. She has done amazing work with the Mandaeans both academically and in person. Lady Drower Redivivus. Her description of how rites are performed once a year to unite the dead with the communal ancestors is powerful.
