I am interested in how people view the definition of the church regarding "family". It seems there is some pretty good blurring of the definition in Mormon circles. I personally see the church as defining a family as the traditional Father, mother, children. I also see the church defining single parent with children also as families because of divorce, separation, loss through death, etc. I also see the church defining families as legally married couples without children. Where I think the church draws the line though is that they do not recognize same sex couples as families. They may define a single parent with children as a "family" even if that parent has a live in same sex partner but the partner is not considered a part of that family.

What do you think and why?
