tyler90az Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 The civil rights issue of our time must be fighting against all surveillance. Giving somebody the power to watch anybody they deem a criminal or terrorist is absolute power. A power greater then if a soldier was house in our homes. That is especially true when there is no clear definition of terrorist or criminal, it is purposely left vague. People in power could suppress opposition or even our religion this way. All it takes is the wrong person to get ino power and we are repeating history again. We must learn from history and make this the civil rights issue of our time.9 Yea, and we also see the great awickedness one very wicked man can cause to take place among the children of men.10 Yea, we see that Amalickiah, because he was a man of cunning device and a man of many flattering words, that he led away the hearts of many people to do wickedly; yea, and to seek to adestroy the church of God, and to destroy the foundation of bliberty which God had granted unto them, or which blessing God had sent upon the face of the land for the crighteous’ sake.11 And now it came to pass that when Moroni, who was the achief commander of the armies of the Nephites, had heard of these dissensions, he was angry with Amalickiah.12 And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—aIn memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole.https://www.lds.org/...lma/46?lang=eng"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin“Benjamin Franklin was right the more liberties we lose the closer we are to being unsafe. Every liberty we give up, one by one, is making it that much easier for a dictator to take over. When that happens we are undoubtedly more unsafe then when randoms attack us. We know two things from history that apply to this debate, power corrupts and dictators often take over peoples. Knowing those two things means we are fools to give up our own liberties.” Tyler90az“In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security and a comfortable life; and they lost all – comfort ad security and freedom.” Prophet Monson, Current EnsignThis is political.
