I doubt they would need us or the missionaries to tell them what to study. Google and Amazon will probably be more helpful. Any purely academic student of Mormonism worthy of the name would already know the relative worth of CARM and IRR etc. But if somebody is intending to look into the Church as an investigator, that is a different ball game altogether. The Book of Mormon I would say should his first port of call, followed by meeting with the missionaries and visiting the Church.Of course investigators will read the Book of Mormon and go to Church, but these days investigators search stuff on their own too. Telling them to look at only peer-reviewed books is a great way to get them to stop looking at anti- stuff without appearing like we're hiding something. 1

It would still sound like Pandora's box if you told them to stay away from something.
