jskains Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Apparently the Baptist Church was started by a guy named John Smyth, which I consider ironic because we are a theological cult because Joseph Smith started our religion.So why are other reformers OK, but Joseph Smith is not? What makes Martin Luther, or John Calvin or this guy divinely inspired, but Joseph Smith is just the created of a man-made cult?Or to narrow the topic down, how is Martin Luther and Joseph Smith different in their actions? That Martin Luther didn't call himself a prophet? But he did give his own interpretations of the gospel and how the Catholic Church was wrong......

Wesley even claimed to be preparing for a restoration IIRC.Our claims of Joseph's prophetic calling either mean he did something unique by the authority of God, or he is a false prophet. I know what I believe but the audacity of our claims (God's authority to establish His church on earth) are unique outside of very few movements.

ldsfaqs Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 It is always interesting to me that those who created and continue other religions do everything a "Prophet" does save maybe claim the title of prophet and maybe not receiving revelations, yet somehow their "prophets" aren't actually false prophets to them.They lead, interpret scripture, stand as watchmen, proclaim heretics and who's christian, what's actually scripture, what's revelation, what's true/what's false, assume authority they were never given, etc. etc. They fit the very definition of "false prophet" much more so than the LDS do.Wonderful double standards and lack of logic, always common with the anti's.
