Fig-bearing Thistle Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 IMO, LDS scriptures support the idea that God cannot obliterate from existence, a spirit. He can consign them to a state of everlasting joy and happiness, or an endless state of misery and woe, but he cannot obliterate them from existence by willing it, or by withdrawing his support. But, I can see where a person who accepts the idea of creation ex nihilo (from nothing), would conversely also believe in the idea of destruction ad nihilum (into nothing).Thoughts?
LeSellers Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) I can see where a person who accepts the idea of creation ex nihilo (from nothing), would conversely also believe in the idea of destruction ad nihilum (into nothing). You're right, in theory. But, as mankind was created, on their take, for God's pleasure, though not for our own, why would He destroy us? This is, in my view, a very powerful argument against the orthodox view of God: He creates us for nothing more than to watch us suffer endlessly. A few He may save from their supposedly deserved punishment, but the vast majority of makind will burn for all eternity without even the relief of annihilation. 'Tis truly a sadistic being who'd do that. Lehi Edited July 8, 2011 by LeSellers
