Indwelling...What Is It?

What exactly does "indwelling" mean? I've read the term a number of times, and I have some guesses for what it means, but I'm not certain. I don't think I've heard it frequently (if ever...) from LDS people, so is there an LDS cognate for it?

"Indwelling,n. a residence within" (Noah Webster, “A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language”, Connecticut: Sidney’s Press, [1806], pg. 157, Facsimile Edition, New York, NY: Crown Publishers, Inc., [1970])

Doesn't help much does it?

Not a "cognate" (I don't think that word means what you think it meansTM), but a synonym would be "the Gift of the Holy Ghost", as I understand it.

It's a bit more than that, though. Again, as I understand it, it is the reception of the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

You're quite right--I didn't want a cognate, a synonym was what I was looking for. You've expressed, essentially, what I've assumed it meant: the action of Diety (through the Holy Ghost from my perspective) taking up residence in an individual with the associated changes in the individual.

Is there more associated with indwelling or does this cover it?
