BookofMormonLuvr Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 It never really struck me before while reading until recently, but several times the Book of Mormon makes reference to "devils and unclean spirits"- seemingly making a differentiation. Any insights or speculations on what differences there might be between the two classes of beings?
DH Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I don't know if these are different classes of spirits, or if they're different roles that spirits may play. The word "devil" itself comes from the Greek diabolos for "accuser." A regular human being may turn himself into a devil if he decides to go around accusing people of things all the time, but he'd still be human. Or a person could alternatively assume the role of a paraclete (parakletos), "comforter" or "defense attorney/advocate" by standing up for other people.
