bookofmormontruth Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 This is a spin off from a current thread. I realized awhile back that I don’t personally subscribe to any models/theories of the Book of Mormon. Yes, I recognize that specific models are more convincing than others. For an example: to know that only 1% of the 3000 discovered Mayan cities in MesoAmerica have only been uncovered is astounding and exciting. Sevenbak and others have also made the debate exciting to see individuals not limited to any model or theory or in the least - open to thinking outside of the box.So I decided to make my own personal theory that isn't serious and is not intended as a joke, but I think it reflects what some LDS members feel in the "debate". Interested to see who else feels they fit in this made up theory.Evidence In the Americas & World Theory: EIAWT This is for an individual who is open to any theories/models, but ultimately is only interested in the discoveries of direct and circumstantial evidence for the Book of Mormon wherever it may be found in the Americas and around the World. It is based on the truthfulness of the Book of MormonIt recognizes that only a spiritual witness will affirm that the Book of Mormon is true. Moroni 10:3-5It recognizes that the LDS Church has not taken an official stance on the Book of Mormon’s geography, but has emphasized the importance of the doctrinal and historical value of the Book of MormonIt is open to experts, amateurs and casual observersIt recognizes evidence only strengthens the LDS faithful and will never convince the worldIt recognizes the beauty of the fields of science and its limitationsIt recognizes that evidence based science is not absolute doctrineIt recognizes that there is no need to “trust in the arm of flesh” no matter how intelligent or spiritual an individual professes to beIt recognizes that no one knows exactly where the Book of Mormon took place in the Americas or around the WorldIt recognizes that there can be a healthy debate if any Prophet knewIt recognizes that evidence could be found any where in the world with the Lehites originating from the Middle East and the Jaredites originating from an unknown locationIt isn’t limited to one model or theoryIt isn’t limited to one quote from a Prophet or any other sourceIt is encouraged that we support each other for that is what we do for brothers and sisters in the GospelWe respectfully teach, disagree and refrain from contentious discussionsWe recognize we are already correct in the truthfulness of he Gospel so there is no need for petty bickering of who is right and who is wrong for whoever comes up with the correct theory or model will not receive a higher glory in the Celestial Kingdom. In June there will be a conference for $100 and a DVD for $25. Welp, it has been fun!
