Pahoran Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 A follow-up to the music discussion: a while ago I attended a fundraising dinner/concert that was put on by a local Protestant church. Songs were performed by solists, small groups and choirs. I was impressed (as indeed I was supposed to be) by the enthusiasm shown by the various singers; that is, until I suddenly realised, about 45 minutes into the concert, that the "spontaneous" gestures of religious enthusiasm were actually just conventional and expected. From that point on, I watched with a more critical eye, and noticed that those gestures were made in connection with certain key words; always the same gestures, and always the same words.Some time after that, I came across a copy of Handel's Hallelujah annotated with stage directions for properly enthusiastic gestures at the right moments.Evangelical Protestant worship: as spontaneously enthusiastic as good stage management can make it.Regards,Pahoran
TAO Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 The music in most Ev churches, on any given Sunday, is far superior, and so is the enthusiasm (with hands raised and genuine praising going on), as Consig mentioned.0.o weird... I like the church's music better XD. Personal preference, I guess ;-)

And perhaps that musical tunes get stuck in my head, so they sound better than they do in reality sometimes 0.o ;-).

If we like them, then we imagine them the way they should sound, not necessarily how they actually sound, when the congregation sings them.
