The problem in reaching an educated opinion based off of this article is that the article is not very good. The article presents very little information, and what it does present (when accurate) isn't enough to reach any solid conclusions. We are left with the possibility of it being genuine and the possibility of it being a forgery. There are several elements mentioned in their that I think raise some interesting possiblities, though.

Some explanation of their existence will be forthcoming. Only ignorance will make them meaningless, and their authenticity would launch them as yet another brick in the wall of evidence supporting the truth of the Book of Mormon. Their possible forgery would have no impact on that truth. Lehi
