How literally do you take the creation story?

But I'd love to see that snapht.

Perhaps you can see if your great great grandpa had a family photo album (just might find a shot of cousin "snapht" blowing out some B-day candles or something)

Peace,

Based on what evidence? What's your credible source?

If you watched the film you could see how layers appear to be laid down one after another by the same flow of water.

Even if true, that doesn't help you. All animals, plants and homo sapiens would be trapped in the same layer. Even if it were making individual layers rapidly and they were somehow hardening rapidly, you'd then get multiple consecutive layers, each filled with all sorts of plants, animals, and humans. It'd look like an episode of the Flintstones. No such layer exists.

Has anyone seen "The Discovery of Noah's Ark" written and narrated by G Edward Griffin? Its fascinating! I think you can find it on youtube if your interested.

Noah's Ark has been "discovered" many times in many places by many snake oil salesmen.

It would take longer than 40 days for the sediment to harden - in the mean time, you'd have all sorts of mammals and dinosaurs trapped in the same layers. No such layer exists.

Still haven't watched the film I see.

Sediment hardening is covered in it and its not what you would expect. Hardening is different for different areas in the strata... Some layers never harden, and it has more to do with dry spells and being baked by the sun which does a pretty good job at forming adobe brikes, with beetles and organic material backed right into the stone. Or depth and preasure as well.

Just watch the film already!

When Jesus taught parables everyone knew it was a parable. If the creation and the flood were intended to be parables then the lord and the prophets should have said something about a long time ago. They didn't and they havent so they are not meant to be taken as parables. If they are not true and they are not parables then they are lies.

I don't know what Jesus thought of it - neither do you. But I do know it never happened literally.

As for Jesus. We know many things, and none of that body of knowledge indicates he disagreed with the literal view.

That you state that you "know" it never happened literally is a statement of faith on your part. Not a fact of science. You only believe it didn't happen.

Zelder:

No he taught in parables so that those who didn't understand would not be damned.

???? I didn't say why he taught in parables I only said that it was clear it was a parable.

Nope.

One is an overview, the other is a more detailed account, focusing on Adam and Eve and the fall.

Except Chapter 2 contradicts Chapter 1 in many regards, time, details, sequence, etc.

How quickly does the film say that sediment would harden under many miles of water?

Who said the layer had to harden before the layer on top was laid down?

As shown in the film, as layers are actually laid down sideways, your point is irrelevant doesn't take into account how layers actually form.

I haven't seen one... maybe you could enlighten me.

They're pretty obviously parables. Come on - talking snakes? Archetypal trees? Flaming swords? Does that sound like history to you?

It's not a matter of belief, it's a matter of fact. The earth isn't flat or covered by a dome. It's older than 6000 years, and humans evolved from other animals. These are facts and facts do not disappear simply because you want them to.

If it didn't harden, then it would only be one layer - they'd mix together as the plug was pulled and the water drained down under the pillars of the earth - which don't exist either, by the way.
