The Holy spirit's job as described by Jesus is to lead people to Him. He is not some divining device you call on to know whether this, that or the other thing is true. God expects us to use our judgement. As Protestants, we have faith that the Biblical account is the Word of God. We can see the places. There is some evidence that can corroborate events. We know the civilizations were real. The Holy Spirit's job is to lead us to Jesus, not to manifiest the truth of just anything. According to Jesus, the HS has a very specific role. He's not to be used just so we can "know the truth of something". <br>

I never claimed that we ONLY use the Holy Ghost to know the truth of something. The gift of discernment is only one of the gifts of the Spirit. Do you think Mormons don't use judgment? You can see some of the places listed in the Bible, just as Latter-day Saints can fairly easily piece together Lehi's exodus route across the Arabian Desert as well as many cultural motifs in the New World. Do you know for a fact that Abraham existed? Could one come to a knowledge of the historical events described in the Pentateuch independently of the Mosaic narrative?

In John 14:26, Jesus says of the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit that "he shall teach you all things [???? ??????? ?????]."

I take it that you reject that verse?

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here, but taken the way I think you mean it , you can use the confirmation of the Spirit to verify, or refute, anything you want - about Jesus or otherwise. I don't think this is the function of the Spirit.

In John 16 Jesus becomes more specific about the work of the Holy Spirit. i.e. to convict the world of sin. He does this through our reading of scripture, through the reproof of our Spirit-led elders and pastors or through whatever means are necessary for us to come into repentance and accept Christ as our Savior; v14 "He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you"
