One possible way of dealing with "anachronisms", Mormon and/or Moroni just messed up.

I beg to differ. It is from the Bible, not the BoM that Mormon scholars get 2200 BC as the date of Jaredite entry into America. Without the Biblical reckoning of 2200 BC for the Tower of Babel incident, the Jaredites could have entered America at 10,000 BC or 15,000 BC.

Continuing our theme of tearing down the scriptures to save them, the Doctrine and Covenants now has to be wrong under this theory:

6 Q. What are we to understand by the book which John saw, which was sealed on the back with seven seals?

A. We are to understand that it contains the revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God; the hidden things of his economy concerning this earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence. 6 Q. What are we to understand by the book which John saw, which was sealed on the back with seven seals?

A. We are to understand that it contains the revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God; the hidden things of his economy concerning this earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence. 7 Q. What are we to understand by the seven seals with which it was sealed?

A. We are to understand that the first seal contains the things of the first thousand years, and the second also of the second thousand years, and so on until the seventh. 8 Q. What are we to understand by the four angels, spoken of in the 7th chapter and 1st verse of Revelation?

A. We are to understand that they are four angels sent forth from God, to whom is given power over the four parts of the earth, to save life and to destroy; these are they who have the everlasting gospel to commit to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people; having power to shut up the heavens, to seal up unto life, or to cast down to the regions of darkness. 9 Q. What are we to understand by the angel ascending from the east, Revelation 7th chapter and 2nd verse?

A. We are to understand that the angel ascending from the east is he to whom is given the seal of the living God over the twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, he crieth unto the four angels having the everlasting gospel, saying: Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And, if you will receive it, this is Elias which was to come to gather together the tribes of Israel and restore all things. 10 Q. What time are the things spoken of in this chapter to be accomplished?

A. They are to be accomplished in the sixth thousand years, or the opening of the sixth seal.

And, as with the typical apologetic theory, we have to ignore the teachings of church leaders and/or believe that the apologetic theorist is more qualified to expound on the scriptures than church leaders.

Following their expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were taught the gospel by heavenly beings and were instructed by the Lord to teach their children. This they did. Then

Selek, at what point, if ever, would you be willing to say that the following things did not exist in the Americas between 600 B.C. and 421 A.D.:

{snip}

3. steel swords patterned after the sword of Laban.

Silly Darth, the Nephites also had left-over Jaredite (2,500 BC) steel blades to copy!

Ether 7:9 Wherefore, he came to the hill Ephraim, and he did molten out of the hill, and made swords out of steel for those whom he had drawn away with him . . .

Then there's the fallback position of, "well, prophets don't know everything/aren't scientists/aren't historians," which makes you ignore Church teachings even more.

Note that in this talk Ezra Taft teaches that the living prophet is more important than the Standard Works, which contradicts the teachings of Harold B. Lee and Joseph F. Smith.

(emphasis mine)

It is clear that you have absolute no idea what the role of a prophet is. He is not a fortune teller, he is not some all-knowing mystical psychic, The Lord has no responsibility to answer every question to satiate our curiosity.

The purpose of the prophet is to lead us to Christ and back to Heavenly Father, to hold the keys of the administration of the church.

BOM geography is not doctrine, chronology is not doctrine, Dinosaurs is not doctrine, the value of pi is not doctrine. Each of these are matters of factual investigation, not a doctrinal issue.

I know this is very irritating to the bitter enemies of the church, but the prophets can give their opinions on those issues. And it is unnecessary to lose our testimonies, to sink into the pit of bitterness, despair and disbelief, if they differ on those issues.
