Over at my my blog I've posted on the message of the Sepphoris synagogue mosaic. Pictures too. =)

I've been restrained in my interpretation, but I think this mosaic is something many here would find rather intriguing.

Would love to discuss it here too.

There is also an interesting quote relating to fate and agency, drawn from one of the midrashic collections.

All this, I believe, because of the close proximity of Sepphoris to Bethlehem. Wonderful digs, too.

Sepphoris and Bethlehem are about 5 days apart!!! Perhaps you are thinking of Bethlehem of the Galilee. There is one archaeologist who seems desperately in need of funding advocating the theory that the latter was the real place of brith. What he considers his strongest argument- the lack of archaeological remains of that period in Bethlehem- is incredibly weak and wilfuly ignorant.

No less interesting than no mentions of Sepphori in the Gospels is the lack of references to Yifat, a sizeable village to which Nazareth was a sort of suburbs.
