Penalties in the Divine Council

here is a queston that has piqued my interest. What, if any, were the penalties attached to rejecting a call to join the divine council, or refusing to participate in it? Are there any indications in the texts, or did such a situation simply not arise in the corpus available to us.

I am reminded of a line from the Godfather which goes, "He made him an offer he couldn't refuse." I would imagine it was akin to that. I would think that the closest we can get to an outright refusal would be that of the rejection of God's plan by the satan or more properly the Ugaritic story of Helel.
