The Noble and Great Ones

In Abraham 3, God shows Abraham Kolob, the sun, the moon and the stars, promising him that his descendants will be multiplied as the stars. Abraham proceeds to teach us about the intelligences, and how he saw among them many noble and great ones, is informed by God that he, Abraham is one of them, and then sees one symbolizing Christ. So Abraham is taught how spiritual lessons can be drawn from the stars. None of the above should be new to anyone here, but I found an interesting parallel in the midrash on Psalms (also known as Shocher Tov).

Praise ye him, sun and moon; praise him all ye stars of light (Ps 148:3).

Who are the sun and the moon? The patriarchs and matriarchs, who are compared (meshulot here could also be in similitude of) to the sun and moon, as it is said, (Gen 37:9) behold the sun and the moon. Who are these stars of light, these are the righteous, as it is said (Dan 12:3), they that turn many to righteousness as the stars, so thus it is said praise him all ye stars of light. From this you learn that everyone has a star in the heavens, and it shines according to his deeds

There's also the Thomas D. midrash.

"Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever."

In reference to the stability and perpetuity of the celestial luminaries, it is declared, that "Jehovah hath prepared his THRONE in the heavens." And when the Psalmist calls upon all the beings in the universe to celebrate the praises of the Creator, he says, in reference to the orbs of heaven, "Praise ye him, sun and moon, praise him all ye stars of light: let them praise the name of the Lord; for he commanded, and they were created. He hath also stablished them for ever and ever; he hath made a decree which shall not pass; which expressions evidently imply, that, whatever changes may happen in particular systems, the great body of the celestial orbs, which constitute some of the grandest scenes of the universe, will remain stable and permanent as the throne of the Eternal.
