Notquitewetyet Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 NotquitewetyetClearly I did not mention names ... Webster says an orgy is "an excessive sexual indulgence"Yeah... as the fourth and final definition. You know what you were implying.cf: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/orgy
Richard Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Bull. Plural Marriage is a sacred principle, and it is one of the greatest principles ever introduced by God to the earth. There are few practices which require a man to be more conscious of his walk toward God and men than living the principle of a plurality of wives. By common sense? I know by common sense that covering up crimes such as child molestation is wrong, and then giving such a man who transfers offenders a position as cardinal in Rome to get him out of America. I bet you don't want to go there. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints still practices plural marriage, I think one of the Apostles currently has plural wives. Of course, not in mortality. I'm willing to bet this was a typo. I'd laugh if it were a Freudian slip.Just caught this, checking to see if I was finished here as to the original post. I have no problem going there as you stated above. We are not sheltered from evil within our Church, except in Christ only and always. His Passion comes to mind. It is a reality. We have bad priest, we have always had bad priest. But the good Priest will always out weigh them. One in twelve comes to mind. At least that was the Apostolic numbers. Individuals who pray on children try to place themselves as close as they can. Being a Catholic Priest would be a place they would aspire as well as a teacher in any school. It has been proven that Celibacy has nothing to do with it, not being married. "Grievous wolves will enter and not spare the flock" The Catholic Church has one billion members and countless priest around the entire world. The wolves are always trying to get in. Some do. But in all that, all I really need do is look at my own sin, confess them and move forward. We could all point to Hitler, to a Catholic Priest, but seldom do we want to look at ourselves. Remember even one tiny sin keeps us from heaven. One lie told in the garden is enough to separate all of us from God. We could each post the evils done by some members of both of our Churches. But what good will that do, will it feed a hungry child today? So again I have no problem with your posting, it is correct. It is unfortunately a reality of evil in our world today, as well as in our communities. At the same time it is why we go to Church, to Christ. To be healed from it, to pray for ourselves, to pray for others, to even pray for our enemies. Remember God loves them all just as He loves you and I. Hope that helpsIn ChristRich
MormonMason Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Letâ??s go straight to the source: Letâ??s stick with Jesus and His own words in the Scriptures handed down by the Apostolic Church. We have had corrupted souls in our Church. But the Holy Spirit is much larger than any of them, it is the Holy Spirit that has protected Sacred Doctrine, the deposit of faith once delivered. It was the Great Promise from Jesus Himself. It is a Miracle of our Faith. Point me to a Parable you find corrupted. We can move out from there. http://utahmission.com/pages/Parables.htmlOr if you like point me to one mistake you have found in the ten commandments or the The Eight Beatitudes. I will give you the Catholic translation, not my own.In ChristRichInteresting proposition but that is not even what I am talking about, Richard. I was very specific as to what I mentioned. Go and look at the writings I asked you to check (Ignatius, Irenaeus, Origen, Jerome's Epistle to Avitus). Then, take 45 of the earliest NT manuscripts and compare them line by line. You will find about around 80% or so agreement between them. If you include manuscripts from different textual families the number percentage will drop somewhat but that is the state of the manuscripts. The vast majority of Bible translations are based upon composite texts and not on the readings of any one single manuscript. Thus, the actual state of the manuscripts is hidden from the reader.Check it out for yourself, Richard. Don't take my word for it.
Phinehas Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 LDSMusic483What Paul is saying is "wife", he is not saying "wives" like Mormon scriptures.Like I said earlier it was "two" in the beginning, it was not an orgy of "wives". That's right. The TWO shall become one... Not the three four or more... hey that rhymes
Zakuska Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 That's right. The TWO shall become one...Not the three four or more... hey that rhymesWell lets see... 1 / 1 is still one no matter how many 1's are involved.
nathansoz Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 NotquitewetyetClearly I did not mention names ... Webster says an orgy is "an excessive sexual indulgence"Johnny. The connotation you knew you were implying is innappropriate. I'm not even mormon and I can't believe that you sunk that low. I can only imagine how the LDS feel on this board, when you insult early leaders of their church. It is akin to them making obsene accusations towards the pope. If you want to get a point across, do it on friendly terms please. I know you feel strongly on this subject. I am a teenager, one of the worst ages to be when you have strong opinions. But I know that to be heard, you need to articulate consisely and appropriately. If you want your argument to come across strongly you would be wise to do these things.
LDSMusic483 Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 That's right. The TWO shall become one... Not the three four or more... hey that rhymesIndeed...husband and first wife....that is one marriage...then husband and 2nd wife....that is one marriage...then husband and 3rd wife...also a seperate marriage. Seperate marriages. seperate groups of "two" becoming "one."
MormonMason Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Yes... Adams first wifes name was Liluth.Lillith...according to Jewish tradition. Brigham Young also once made the comment that Adam brought one of his wives with him... (Journal of Discourses 1:50).Joseph Smith also once told a few brethren that Adam originally had two wives. He may or may not have gotten that from Kabbalistic tradition. His source is unknown at the present time.

Give me the direction, exactly where you went to gather your information.Keep in mind that there was a lot on the table, the Church guided by the Holy Spirit placed everything in the New Testement that was necasary for your salvation. It is very clear and 100% precise when it comes to that.

MormonMason Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Give me the links, the ones you went to.There are no links that I used. I used printed books, in Greek, Latin and English. You may have either to purchase books or to visit a good library that has the books, or maybe even obtain them via interlibrary loan. I have most of them on my shelves at home so I hardly ever needed to visit the Library.

I have most of them on my shelves at home so I hardly ever needed to visit the Library. This explains the 80% / 20% without having to go through all the trouble.CCC: God inspired the human authors of the sacred books. "To compose the sacred books, God chose certain men who, all the while he employed them in this task, made full use of their own faculties and powers so that, though he acted in them and by them, it was as true authors that they consigned to writing whatever he wanted written, and no more." (minus 20%) The inspired books teach the truth. "Since therefore all that the inspired authors or sacred writers affirm should be regarded as affirmed by the Holy Spirit, we must acknowledge that the books of Scripture firmly, faithfully, and without error teach that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wished to see confided to the Sacred Scriptures." God placed what needed to be placed in the Scriptures for our salvation in Christ, he is the all time editor of all things. Still, the Christian faith is not a "religion of the book." (the Church was established well before the Bible was completed) Christianity is the religion of the "Word" of God, a word (Jesus) which is "not a written and mute word, but the Word which is incarnate and living".73 If the Scriptures are not to remain a dead letter, Christ, the eternal Word of the living God, must, through the Holy Spirit, "open [our] minds to understand the Scriptures."I understand the Scriptures and what they mean for me personally 1. God is God above all things, there are no other gods but God. Father, Son and their Holy Spirit2. I know that Jesus is also God the Eternal Son, in which all things were created by and through Him. That it was my Lord, God and Creator that died for me, that rose for me. 3. I was created in the image of God, I was created good4. Because of the fall of mankind, wanting to be a god (me included) I have been separated from Him because of my sin, and have no way to get home to Him accept in surrendering myself over to Jesus, allow Him to carry this lost sheep which is me home. I have full confidence that His promise to me, made on a Cross will come true. This is my Hope of all hopes. Because it is true in my daily life.So what problem do you have with the Scriptures exactly? What do you have to offer me that would be more important than what I just spoke about? Do I need to go through all the Church documents regarding the early Church fathers to confirm this? The Scriptures are simply not in error regarding all that is important for my salvation in Christ, God intended it to be this way, becasue in the end He is the author and He does not error when it come to your salvation as well.In Christ JesusRich
Richard Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I have to ad that I am not a scholar in any way shape or form. When I was young I did not study, hated it! My attention span is about a minute. Even if I tried to read the books on your shelf I would not last that minute. I have never read a complete book in my life. But I do read the Scriptures. All I have is a life that has been transformed by Jesus. What I say comes straight from the heart. I do check my thoughts with the CCC, and they usually parallel pretty good. Why? Because the Spirit of God is the same today as it was yesterday. Nothing I have learned is new, only to me. I believe I know Jesus and I pray that each day I get closer to Him, aware that He has always been at my side. The Scriptures are not only Sound they are alive in Christ. His Church is the best interpreter of them. The proper context is available to all who seek it. If you tell me Jesus walked across the ocean, I would know it was the Sea of Galilee.
