Just because she was consort to a similarly named God in ancient Ugarit, doesn't mean we can make that apologetic leap and assume the Israelites believed likewise; especially since every biblical reference to asherah as consort associates her with Yahweh, and never with El or elohim.

On a more general level, one that I have talked about a lot because it is seriously significant is the fact that God has a wife, something FEW CHRISTIANS to this day seems to allow. Yahweh was God, and had a wife. Whether Asherah is ever attributed to El or Elohim in the Bible (as if it is a complete recording of all things in ancient Israel - GUFFAW!) is a nit pick compared to the astonishing restoration of the *idea* that God is married and has a wife, and family with sons and daughters. THIS idea is perhaps what is restored, the specifics Mormonism could be mistaken on, but the idea is obviously supported now. It certainly is not an idea in current Christianity whatsoever. But, I suppose you'll now say I am backpeddling or fudging, say anything to get us off the track of the idea of a Heavenly wife for God, something not alien to Mormonism, but certainly is to Christianity. It must simply be apologetic desperation yes?
