The Bokovoy/Heiser Exchange On The Council Of The Gods

Just finished reading it. I have been interrupted now several times, but finally said LOOK PEOPLE!!!!! (to everyone who was interrupting me). I want to read, and all else can just go to........er I mean, can just wait.

VERY NICE exchange, and most stimulating on Adam as a member of the Divine Council! God as gardener has always been a stimulating image for me, but Adam as continuing such AS a member of the Divine Council, now that ROCKS! I have noticed through the years the various plant imagery of people used in the scriptures and non-canonical writings. Thanks for a great review David, and I think Heiser has some good critiquies and notices that this must continue.

And I just noticed and did NOT Mean to spell Dr. Heiser's name with a small letter in the title of this thread. Crimany that torques my britches!

I Loved them as well!

Especially the Pslams 89 (85?) connection! These "gods" (in Pslams 82) are in Heaven... now how did "Human Judges" get up in heaven?

The board does that automatically--only the letters at the start of the line or with a space in front of them are capitalized; everything else is forced to lower case.

I believe that a moderator can edit the title for you, if you want to try PMing them.

Edit: I sent a "REPORT" off about this, so presumably the mods will shortly know about it.

I read the exchange too, but I started out with Peterson's book chapter that is available on the FARMS site. I wasn't able to read it all in one sitting either. I will probably have re-read it a few more times before I get all the positions.

I wonder if Adam-God will make a comeback as we come to understand the Council a little better.

Heiser's position, as his 14 points show, seems to straddle the fence between evangelical views and LDS views. I think he was gracious in his second response, but seemed to have elected to punt. It was interesting to me that some of the differences came down to the LDS commitment to <em>ex nihilo</em>, an issue I think LDS have an advantage on, when the intellectual history is scrutinized.

Agreed, and the interesting thing is Heiser is calling for more interaction and development of ideas. So, lets jump on that! Woo hoo! I think both Heiser and Bokovoy's scholarship is outstanding, as is their attitudes. It makes it fun to exchange ideas when folks do it this way. An example for us all.

I do think the Bokovoy's argument was a much stronger and more scripturally based argument when it comes to 'species-unique' and 'species-equal'. I mean lets take Acts 17:26-29

Here is the problem with the 'God's adopted offspring' interpretation Evangelical Christians are want to give it. It's not speaking of Christians as the Adopted children of God... it is speaking specifically of Blood lines and DNA. It's speaking of Human Kind in terms of real genetics and not just a select few out of the race.

I did also enjoy all the insites into the other places that the council appears, as well as the verses that call deceased human souls as 'gods'.
