I might lose my pundit status because of this thread, but.....

It has been alleged that Joseph had access to the Kaballah.

Having read both of those a while ago, I thought the Farms article was a pretty succesful refutation of the former. Some of the parallels drawn were interesting, though.

Agreed. Mind you, given my "pious envy" toward judaism I actually prefer the idea that he did study Kaballah. But the evidence just doesnt point in that direction.

He definitely made statements to that effect. My main reason for rejecting the Rabbi Yosef idea is the absence of an emphasis on the Tree of Life or the Ten Sephirot. I see no Mormon equivalent for those teachings.
