Thought Reform Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 If people want to hear Dr. Simon Southerton relate his personal story when he was a Mormon and his investigation involving DNA research and native Americans and Polynesians, the audio is at http://exmormonfoundation.org/files/media/...therton_low.mp3Dr. Thomas Murphy (another LDS scientist involved with DNA research and native Americans) raised a good point: There is no scientific evidence supporting the Book of Mormon (BoM) story and LDS doctrine that non-compliance to 'commandments of God' resulted in the skin of ancestors of native Americans becoming dark. The timing issue is also critical. Archeological field and lab work has revealed that ancient Native Americans (the ancestors of the Lamanites, according to the BoM and LDS Church) established communities, hunted, etc. in different parts of the Americas centuries and even thousands of years before the Lamanite race supposedly got started (approx. 600 B.C.) according to the BoM. Has the LDS Church ever attempted to explain this discrepancy to its members?A great source of info. on Native American DNA and archeological research can be obtained through several North American universities. According to Syracuse University's Anthropology Dept., the archaeological and physical anthropological data from Central New York are consistent with that from surrounding areas which provide evidence of ancestral Native American populations, beginning with Paleo Indian settlement, and continuing through Archaic, Woodland and Historic Period Occupations. While some data have suggested pre-Columbian European contact with the Americas, these data are not widely substantiated and not relevant to New York. To date, no evidence of 'fair-skinned' people (Nephites) circa 385 A.D. has been discovered in New York state, despite the hundreds of thousands of Nephites who gathered there for the final armed conflict with the Lamanites, according to Mormon Chapter 6.There is a very large and specialized literature on North American Archaeology. People interested in an overview of the archaeology of New York can read Brian Fagan's "Ancient North America," Jesse Jennings "Prehistory of North America", or Gordon Willeys "An Introduction to American Archaeology". Fagan's work is the most up-to-date of the three and the most read-able for the layperson. Another interesting piece (somewhat related) is the book, "Fantastic Archaeology", by Stephan Williams.
Marvelous Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 You haven't heard of the Limited Geography Theory?

Strike one.The timing issue is also critical. Has the LDS Church ever attempted to explain this discrepancy to its members? You haven't been following any of the debates have you? Use the search button then get back to us. Foul Tip for strike two.A great source of info. on Native American DNA and archeological research can be obtained through several North American universities. Dang, now why didn't anybody else read that chapter... then everyone would know where to look. Not knowing what the Book really says-- strike 3. That would mean you're out... nice try.
