Service Mission: Is this suggestion acceptable or standard for service missions?

1. The service missionary helps a relative who is a Patriarch. Missionary helps w/ transcribing blessings, scheduling appointments, etc. For context, the relative and his wife are over 80 years old and they live in SLC near Temple Square

2. Serve at Temple Square
3. Serve at the Family History Library

I'm not really sure how service missions work - since the missionary and their parents basically create the content of the mission.

Any of you had experience creating such a mission or serving such a mission??

1. I would not want a service missionary helping the patriarch I went to unless he/she was extraordinarily mature.

2  I don't know about recently, but at least those that worked at Temple Square were specifically called there with a few few months proselyting.  Incidentally, the sisters called to Mesa temple would work some days/parts of days at the visitor's center and some days proselyting.  It could have changed, but I don't see service missionaries being there.

3. There are many service missionaries that work at family history libraries. When my parents were at the main Salt Lake one they had 2 large quorums who worked at there or other places. I don't know if they were considered service missionaries or not, but I know they didn't have a regular proselyting call.

For a youth mission I doubt the patriarch part would work.

Other two might.

My son served a service mission.  The structure continues to evolve. It is not up to the parents. My son reported to the stake president with help from a mission couple that was called to help line up service opportunities with local non profits etc. They have since been rolled up under the local Mission President.
