If all prophets...

Recommended Posts

Lol great question.  I don’t think they would like each other much- everyone has had their own agenda and later presidents have undone significant agendas of previous presidents.  I think Kimball would be displeased about 2 hour church.  Certainly Brigham would look down his nose. I can’t imagine their view of how we allow women to witness baptisms.

Saw this on reddit, but using US presidents, so I'm changing it for our board.

If all prophets came alive and met each other, what would they think?

Some of the past prophets would likely request to see the revelations received by the later prophets contradicting their revelations.

I suspect the earlier prophets would be very confused by what they saw today if they hadn't received advanced warning.

I also suspect the more current prophets might have an issue with the outspoken opinions of the previous ones - they didn't run things through committee before speaking.  Brigham was known to drop an four letter words over the pulpit.

I think Joseph Smith would have been okay with it.  He was already instructing the sisters on blessing and healing the sick, which arguably takes a bit more mojo to pull off successfully.

Are you only talking about LDS Prophets, or all prophets including FLDS, Community of Christ, other Mormon sects and non mormon sects that follow prophets?

Mingling with the Gods, they would plan for their Brothers and Sisters.

Good question. I say yes.

I think the question is much more interesting if we imagine a scenario where they are not aware of what has transpired after they died.

For example:

How would Brigham Young react to seeing black priesthood holders or mixed-race marriages in the temple?

Would Joseph Smith be surprised to see that the 2nd coming has not yet happened?

How would prophets before 1900 react to seeing we no longer practice polygamy on earth?

What would early prophets think about the office of the Presiding Patriarch being empty?

Is the current leadership structure how Joseph Smith envisioned it?

What would past prophets think of the size of the Church's investment fund and how it is being used especially Heber J. Grant.

I went back and forth on either all prophets that our church considers prophets including OT and BoM or just our Latter-day prophets.  Never could decide so I'll let you decide for your own answer.

That is a good point.  Go with it in your answer.

And current prophets would probably request to see the revelations received by earlier prophets for which we have no record for, especially those that contradicted previous revelations or actions (such as the priesthood ban and turning the WOW into a commandment that could keep someone out of the temple).

"What did I do to deserve this?"

I think Joseph Smith would tell some of them to lighten up. I think he would get along well with Elder Uchtdorf.

Elder Uchtdorf would say, "But I'm not dead yet!" in a Monty Python voice.

I think we'd definitely be surprised if we really knew how much in the Church didn't come from God or even how much from God has been disregarded.

Could be a huge eyeopener for everyone.

I think Joseph Smith would say…”wait…women are also supposed to hold the priesthood in addition to the men…..and who took the Relief Society away from the women of the church?”

He might, but not in the way you mean.  He established a priesthood quorum for women that most members today don't know exists.

Very interesting - that might fill in some blanks.  The word "exists" is present tense - was that deliberate?

Please elaborate!
