Forever and throughout the universe

I'm our stake's history specialist. And my ward's de facto history specialist.

When it comes to the annual history, the historical department wants us to get releases signed by those who submit media for inclusion in the annual history. Part of the release text I found amusing. Here is part of the text, with the amusing part bolded:

"To the full extent permitted by law, I hereby waive, forever and throughout the universe, any and all so-called “moral rights” now or hereafter recognized with respect to the Photographs and to each and every part thereof for any and all now known or hereafter existing uses, media, and/or forms. In this regard, I acknowledge and agree that I will not receive a credit on or in connection with COP’s use of the Photographs."

I found the bolded part charming! Especially the part about "throughout the universe." As an amateur cosmologist I am tickled pink by this. So the release applies even on the fourth planet of any given sun located in the Andromeda galaxy.

"COP" by the way means "Corporation of the President".

I think they forgot to cover a parallel universe or even a multiverse...

It may be intentional, so as not to claim rights outside their jurisdiction. :D

In modern physics, the concept of multi-universes is under some discussion. There is no theoretical model that predicts it, AFAIK, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

Personally, I'm a believer. Anti-mormons used to mock us by saying we believed that we got our own planets in the end. That's silly! Why settle for a planet? I contend that if I am exalted, I don't get a planet, I get a universe.

For eternal increase it would need to be an universe!

The word universe is from Middle English, from Old French univers, from Latin universum “all things, as a whole, the universe”), neuter of universus (“all together, whole, entire, collective, general, literally turned or combined into one”), from uni-, combining form of unus ("one") + versus ("turned"), a perfect passive participle of verto ("to turn").  (thus saith wikipedia)

So, in other words, the word universe refers to all things together, everything, the one place where everything is and with everything in it.

To think there are 2 places where everything is would be to not understand what the universe is.  Everything in existence is in the one place where everything is, if there is such a thing as a universe with everything in it.

I do believe there are multiple dimensions in the one and only universe, while the universe itself is the one place where everything is, including every place in existence.

Let's perhaps not put too fine a point on the stretched metaphor 😉

Did Buzz Lightyear pass the Bar Exam?

If so, I wonder where he's licensed.  There is something called the Universal Bar Exam: Someone could be licensed to practice law in any jurisdiction that accepts the UBE if he or she achieves at least the minimum score accepted in that jurisdiction.  (Mercury?  Venus?  Earth?  Mars? ...)

@gav

Off topic.  Sorry.  I can't get over your avatar.  Do you have a pet mongoose or honey badger to keep all of the "frequent backyard visitors" at bay?

Have you had anyone sign that agreement?  How would you like it if someone submitted a photo of you on a bad hair day which the COP showed to some of your children a billion years from now?  What if you wore a T-shirt you didn't want them to see?

LOL! I think that if it were inappropriate, I would blur the message or picture before incorporating it.

And yes, I have gotten such signatures. But in a billion years from now I don't think I would sweat it too much.

I hope nobody regrets anything later.

Most of these photos are amateur work with very little commercial value. So it's unlikely that the church is going to publish them.

I'm sorry for derailing your thread about "through all time and throughout the universe, worlds without end" with inquires about slithering serpents.  You should ban gav from the thread!  He knows they creep me out, yet he keeps on posting creepy pictures, nonetheless! :D  :D

In this case, in which I see [someone?] holding that ... ummm ... adorable critter ... with the car door open, does that mean that [someone?] didn't take that advice?  (Just asking!)

Nope, that was one I just picked up at a place where people didn't feel to comfortable having it around. I'm about to drive home in that pic.

What do you do with them after you have caught them?

He releases them, until they come back into his yard! :shok:   (I would've guessed that he feeds them to his pet mongoose or honey badger, but he says he doesn't have either one of those! :D

@gav, do you have a supply of antivenin on hand?  (I watched something on Youtube where a guy got bitten by a cobra, and he said to himself, "I think I'll just sit here for awhile and see if I've been envenomated ..."  I think he "thinned the herd" by one ...)
