LOGAN, Utah (KUTV) — Police are investigating after a tabernacle for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Logan was vandalized with explicit graffiti.

They said a suspect graffitied the message "F*** Joseph Smith" on the front doors of building, which has been under construction. As of Monday, no suspects were caught on surveillance video.

Officials said local schools are now leading the investigation because "most of the time, it's usually of that age group."

The vandalism was first reported on Sunday morning, but officials said they believe the graffiti could have been done as early as Friday.

And here:

LOGAN, Utah — Police in Logan are investigating vandalism at a historic tabernacle for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Logan Tabernacle, located in the middle of the city on Main Street, was streaked with paint over the weekend.

The front doors were spray painted with “F— Joseph Smith” and other paint streaks marred the sign on the building.

Logan Police Captain Curtis Hooley said there’s no video on the site, even though it’s under construction.

“When you look at the pictures… the tabernacle is fenced off with chain link. But it was inside on the front doors of the building that faced Main Street,” Holley said.

Brady Henderson was one of the workers hired to clean up the paint.

“…Starting to see it more and more. Not usually front and center downtown though,” Henderson said.

This is the second case of vandalism of a religious building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in November. Just over a week ago, on Nov. 13, a church building in Perry, Utah was badly vandalized.

Police in Perry said two teens smashed glass, damaged an organ and piano, and slashed paintings in a meetinghouse.

Construction began on the Logan Tabernacle in 1864 and was completed in 1891 and is primarily used today for semi-annual stake conferences, seminary graduations, musical concerts, and lectures.

So what are we thinking? A church member girl turned a boy down when he asked her out?

Likely someone who has felt ostracized or hurt by the Church or its members.
That kind of hatred is usually very personal.

I know of at least one chapel in Australia that was vandalized during the Australian Marriage Equality Vote a few years ago...out of reaction to the churches opposition to that act becoming law.  The law ended up passing anyway.

The church will always have opposition and idiots will always act out against the church in stupid senseless ways.

What else is new?

In LA it's this synagogue today, that one tomorrow.

Why go after something that's undergoing renovations in an area that can be fixed extremely quickly?

There are plenty of meetinghouses around that would have been much easier to vandalise with more lasting effects. Here they can just strip and repaint, that won't happen on a meetinghouse.

The meetinghouses have been hit before.

I blame all arson/graffiti and violence against the church on hateful rhetoric from ex-mo reddit and those who publicly express concerns about the church. (This is how it's done, right?)

I doubt even they would approve, but get where you're coming from.

Sometimes.  And sometimes kids are just really dumb.

We had a really dumb kid go through our neighborhood and tag all sorts of houses with swear words and other graffiti, including the church.  Genius actually included his instagram in the graffiti, and his instagram included his picture, real name, and the jr. high he attended.  That crime of the century was solved in 30 minutes.

But I think that often, when it includes specifics against the church, that it's probably some kind of a personal thing.  Either based on actual real life experience or stuff they've read or heard from others.

The Church needs to invest in the ring doorbell system.   Put them in all the churches and around temples.

Modern problems require modern solutions.

It was clearly a false flag operation. Clearly the Church is attempting to garner sympathy by vandalizing its own buildings. How do I know this?

Note that in the wording of “Smith” the I is higher than than the T. Clearly a coded message that the Church IT department is behind it. Also the kerning is a secret code that indicates the Danites funded the operation.
