Super Mario Bros.

Last year, someone set an 'Impossible' Super Mario Bros. World Record [1] finishing the game in less than five minutes. I watched the video of him breaking the previous world record, but I won't share it here because of the strong language. The gamer was very happy and said, "God took the wheel". He kept saying, "it was really not me, there's no way".

Can God help someone break a world record?

Maybe.  I think it would depend on a lot of different things.

People can learn and grow through many different venues, and a relationship with God can be gained through many different kinds of experiences.  Also, God can accomplish a lot through people being in certain places at certain times. God’s plan for someone’s life might include winning a contest or something of that sort, not even necessarily for the winning but for the experiences that will occur after.

Maybe a video game, or holding some kind of record, could facilitate those experiences and lessons for some specific person.  I wouldn’t say it was out of the realm of possibility.

What do you think, and how do you justify your belief?

In addition to the Apostle Paul’s testimony that it is in God “that we live, move and have our being,” the Savior taught the following:

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (John 15)

"Can" He?  Yes.  Will He?  Yes, but probably the gamer was just in a state of flow that can sometimes feel spiritual.  It really depends on what the purpose of God helping on this would be which is impossible for any of us to know.
