Uhhh ... Fair Dinkum?  James Huntsman isn't Jon Huntsman.  It is the former, not the latter, who filed this suit.

Nothing escapes you.  Thanks, I've corrected my error

That's why I get paid the big money around here.  That's right!  I am the only person making money off of MD&DB! :P :nea:

Is this a problem??

First this announcement:

https://www.abc4.com/news/local-news/church-of-jesus-christ-of-latter-day-saints-donates-to-help-utah-homeless-

Then this one.

initiatives/https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/church-jesus-christ-funds-initiatives-shelter-homeless

A few paragraphs down it mentions the money came from https://www.latterdaysaintcharities.org/. I remember hearing about it on the news or somewhere and it seems they made it look like the church gave the money, but it didn't, the members of the church did. Shouldn't they reword articles like this?

I always like when the church says it comes from it's members if so. But this article seems odd to me. But it might just be me, so I would love anyone else's viewpoint.

Well, technically, anything from the church is from its members :)  But I don't believe tithing is generally used for humanitarian purposes.  The tithing slip has a charity section and people can donate directly to the charity organization of the church and that is the fund that is generally used for humanitarian purposes.  So, I don't have that much of a problem with it because that is how I understand the church does humanitarian aid.

Thanks, just wondered about the wording in the heading of the news article. Because I had thought it came from the church and was grateful the church used it's funds, can always hope it came from the Ensign Peak fund or the profit from business side. I've always hoped for this or have for the past few years. Since tithing is generally used for non humanitarian funds. I am grateful for those that sacrifice and give to the fast offerings. But hoped I'd see the for profit side of the church sacrifice as well.

The profit side of the church (as in Deseret Book and such) donates to the humanitarian organization of the church.  So, the money in that article is partially from the profit side.  I also remember linking to a page that described a specific charitable organization that the profit side of the church donates to, but I can't find that page.

Edited to add: I found the page - http://www.deseretmanagement.com/our-companies/foundations/  The for-profit organizations of the church donate to those charitable foundations listed there.

Here's an example of the for-profit side giving donations.  https://uw.org/our-donors/ lists all of the donors to United Way of Salt Lake.  In the "Innovators" section (which is donations of $250,000 - $1,000,000), it lists Bonneville Internation Corporation, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Foundation, Deseret Management Corporation, and KSL Media Group.  In the "Pacesetters" section (which is donations of $25,000 - $100,000), it lists Bonneville Communications, Deseret Book Company, Deseret Digital Media, Inc, Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators, Deseret News Publishing Company, and Temple Square Hospitality Corporation.

I believe all of those are for-profit organizations that the church owns.

Interesting. Gutsy. But I predict some form of church discipline.
