JAHS
Controversial Mormons Church Announces Groundbreaking Nairobi Project "The church, which has been considered controversial for many decades, revealed that it intended to erect two temples in Nairobi, Kenya and another in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US. "The groundbreaking ceremony for the Nairobi Kenya Temple will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021. "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, popularly known as the Mormons Church, has announced plans to launch a new groundbreaking project in Nairobi. The church, which has been considered controversial for many decades, revealed that it intended to erect two temples in Nairobi, Kenya and another in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US. An artistic impression of the upcoming church showed an expansive building expected to cost millions of shillings with a tall, tower-like structure protruding at its top. "The groundbreaking ceremony for the Nairobi Kenya Temple will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021. "Elder Joseph W. Sitati, Africa Central Area president, will preside at the event. The location will be announced later," read a statement from the Church. The religious institution further noted that the event would be an invite-only function. The upcoming temple will be the first of its kind constructed in Kenya and will seek to serve nearly 15,000 Latter-day Saint members attending more than 50 congregations. The institution has over the years had to wean itself from accusations that its supporters worship the devil among other doctrines. In March 2017, the church's public affairs missionaries Michael Ford and his wife Charleen Ford had to defend the church during a function in Kenya after the rumours about devil worship became immutable. They further argued that the institution, which was founded in 1820, has been subject to a lot of misconceptions over the years. Worldwide, the church has over 15 million membership and 85,000 missionaries. Former US Presidential Aspirant Mitt Romney is among world leaders known to attend the church. In Kenya, the devil-worshipping rumours began after the institution put up a multi-million shilling complex along the Eldoret-Iten Road." ----------------- So the Church has been controversial for many decades; a description that could apply to any religion. From what I have read elsewhere some Africans are quick to claim that certain religions worship the devil. Another article back in 1999 reports that the Mormons and the Freemasons are "gateways to devil worship" as claimed by Catholic and other Christian churches. Now that a new temple is being built those same old accusations are showing up again. 2 Link to comment
sunstoned
Interesting. The article said the devil-worshipping rumors began because of a multi-million shilling complex was created. I am not sure what a shilling complex is or why it would be associated with the devil. Link to comment

The Nehor
They clearly just confused our Priesthood rituals that bind jinn and devils with worship. Should be easy to clear up. I will send my bound jinn to explain it to them. 3 Link to comment

It's also probably from the usual propaganda that we worship the brother of Satan, and heck no one would ever denounce his brother, right? Link to comment

You know how everyone starts church talks by quoting the dictionary? This encouraged me to look up a word, and ironically it applies on so many levels here that I cannot resist posting this. Webster says: Quote density: noun Definition of density 1: the quality or state of being dense Edited July 21, 2021 by mfbukowski 2 Link to comment

By all indications there is something distinctly different about Jehovah and his creation. I am not offended by the term brother but I think it might be off as it implies some kind of symmetry between his creation and ours and that of my good buddy Lucifer. Ex-good buddy. Stinking traitor. 1 Link to comment

Sadly not accurate. The devil is pretty predictable, boring, and dull. Any time I get annoyed with God I have to remind myself that the primary alternative is a dull-witted mediocrity with borderline OCD for tempting with the same things over and over and over again. A real self-starter. Actually, he may just sit back, relaxing, while getting his minions to do all the work. And some of his minions may be mortals. Link to comment

A place where albino's (my son and daughter are albino) are still being kidnaped, hunted, mutilated, and sacrificed as witches. And their body parts are given to witch-doctors who use them in potions which bestow good luck and prosperity. This video is about Tanzania, but the same thing exists in the neighboring country of Kenya. Link to comment
Scott Lloyd
The article cited in the OP is poorly written. It says the Church has had to “wean itself” from accusations of past decades. Why would you have to “wean” yourself from someone else’s false accusations? It appears to have been written by someone for whom English is a second language. Link to comment

Their English may vary from American English though, so English may be a native language for the author, but still sound or read awkward to Americans. Wiki: Quote Kenya's various ethnic groups typically speak their mother tongues within their own communities. The two official languages, English and Swahili, are used in varying degrees of fluency for communication with other populations. British English is primarily used in Kenya. Additionally, a distinct local dialect, Kenyan English, is used by some communities and individuals in the country, and contains features unique to it that were derived from local Bantu languages such as Kiswahili and Kikuyu.[4] It has been developing since colonisation and also contains certain elements of American English. English is widely spoken in commerce, schooling and government. Edited September 5, 2021 by Calm 1 Link to comment
