Rain
I know this is a long shot, but anyone know of a current type 1 diabetic missionary with dexcom g6, but doesn't use a pump? I'm aware of an elder that needs help ASAP. Please pm his/his parents facebook profile or number if they are willing to help and let me share it with this missionary's mom. They have to be a missionary or were released recently. It has to do with compatible missionary phones. Edited July 13, 2021 by Rain 1 Link to comment
Calm
Surely in this case they would allow two phones if necessary? Or does the missionary want to upload an app to avoid two phones to save money? If so, wonder if the LDS tech site would be able to help…assuming still active. Missionary dept might keep track of medical requirements. Maybe find a name through them? I asked on the FAIR list, but long shot as you say. For those who don’t know what dexcom is, it is a real time blood glucose monitor. Very nice if you can get it to work for you. Edited July 13, 2021 by Calm 1 Link to comment
Rain
No, he wouldn't be able to use 2 phones. They can only use phones on the approved list and they are struggling to find a phone that is compatible with the cgm. Plus it sounds like it also matters what mission you are in. She has now been given a couple of sources today so hopefully those will work. One is a nurse with mission medical and another a mission tech specialist so hopefully... Link to comment

It seems dumb not to make a phone exception for a life preserving medical device? Is there something I’m not understanding? 2 Link to comment

Is there something I’m not understanding? They do have some exceptions. Like they have a way to add specific medical apps as an exception. The problem is that the missionary software? isn't compatible with all phones so there is a list of what phones are compatible. And that seems to be mission specific as well? And from what I am reading his doctor wants him to share his results with her so that cuts down on the number of compatible phones. 1 Link to comment

He should be allowed a 2nd phone promising he will only use it for his diabetes. Common sense. Link to comment
Rain
Just now, bsjkki said: He should be allowed a 2nd phone promising he will only use it for his diabetes. Common sense. Even if he were allowed I don't think he wants to. Apparently there is some type of receiver for the dexcom if you don't have a phone. But that would be yet another piece of equipment for him to carry. Link to comment
Calm
I have a friend who uses Dexcom 6 CBGM who offered to help, but looks like he wouldn’t have the info needed. I gave him more info just in case. Edited July 13, 2021 by Calm 1 Link to comment
rchorse
We had this problem with finding a phone for my son's Dexcom G6 (he's not a missionary). We started using xDrip+ instead of the official Dexcom app, and it works great. It will work on almost any phone and is very easy to install and get working. I'm not sure how much they lock down missionaries' phones, but it may be an option. Here's a link with more information: https://jamorham.github.io/ 3 Link to comment
Calm
Well, apparently if you hit the wrong arrrow and then correct it, the first is what counts sort of as for me it looks red, but shows it as a 1…apologies on accidentally giving you a down vote. Edited July 21, 2021 by Calm Link to comment

It shows as a green 1 for me, so maybe it's just your browser cache. Link to comment

In the past a type 1 diabetic would not even have been going on a mission. It is a young adult whose doctor is directing and wants to have the data that in part makes dexcom so useful. A key part of a medical treatment should not be labeled as a want in contrast to a need. That a diabetic should be satisfied with less than the best medical treatment available simply because of policy because in the past there weren’t medical treatments that could provide such consistent info…don’t agree. I have been so screwed over by medical and government policies which classified a need as a unnecessary want that these kinds of comments really, really tick me off. My disorder is severe and I am bed bound because doctors in Canada refused to pay attention to personal differences and actual experts rather than Big Pharma pushing their new, expensive drugs and insisted I could only have access to the policy drugs…even though they were happy to give me the drug that worked without major side effects and documented augmentation for other stuff.
