I was raised in the Church and am a faithful, active member; I have served a full-time mission in Mexico, been sealed to my wife, and am currently a CTR-4 co-teacher with her. I was studying for a BA in Spanish Language and Literature, but am now pivoting to getting a BAS in Aviation Science (will likely still have Spanish as my minor). I currently work two jobs: one full-time as a compliance specialist for a non-emergency medical transportation coordinator and another freelance job as a writer. I am also a volunteer officer in four local units of secular, non-profit organizations (Masonic). I'm not sure what else to include here, but I look forward to getting to know a lot of you. It's interesting, they call themselves Christian, play the tolerant ecumenical card in lodge but in Commandery itself it sure varies. I do wonder what they'll do as time goes on, here and other states they keep combining with other commanderies due to people either dying or demitting out, they really can't seem to get the newer people, they tend to go SR like I did. The KT/York rite guys I've known tended to have families so it was a better fit, at least that what I noticed. By the way, how many people in grand lodge are BYU grads? Remember seeing this a few years ago, that and i've known a few LDS members who were vets, church members make great members of the craft. It looks like you may do something similar to us, one huge headquarters where everything is done. If I'm ever in SLC, I'm checking it out. So he's a Shriner and heavily into YR? Wow. We don't have those down here in St George yet, but we are hoping to start a DeMolay chapter here within the next year or so (especially now that Scouting, BSA isn't as big here in Utah anymore). If you ever do get a chance to visit the SLC Masonic temple, I wholly recommend that you do so. The inside is gorgeous. I do love being a Utah Mason. As I mentioned, we're among the smallest grand lodge jurisdictions in the States (in fact, we may well be the smallest at this point); about 1,450 Masons in total, according to the report at the last annual communication this past February. If they did bring them back I think you'd see more interest in the York rite, sure would from me. Not surprised DeMolay and Job's Daughters would be big there, SLC is a very family oriented state. Also for youth they're fantastic orgs. I'd think they would be growing even more now with the BSA on the way out. SLC period is a gorgeous city, I'll add that to the list. You may be small but your people are fantastic. Big issue some lodges have is they let just about anyone in now, big surprise they cause problems and scare the good people away. Lol true, maybe everyone knowing the GM isn't so wonderful... I'm not, knew someone who was. Think it's structured like the Priories in the UK are hence the mantle and tunic. They're invitation only, think most of their membership are York rite, I could be wrong. For me outside of SR i'm also eying these guys, looks like they have something in Utah. Back in my undergraduate days (1970's), I performed as an extra with the Utah Symphony. At the time, the orchestra held its rehearsals in the Masonic temple. A wonderful memory for me was trying to follow Maurice Abravanel's conducting techniques as we rehearsed the Mahler 7th Symphony. The temple environs were beautiful, but I was so intimidated in trying not to screw up the performance that I probably didn't fully appreciate my surroundings. How does the church treat them? So far I've had good experiences with them. That's another big plus for the LDS church, they try to get along.
